Yeah, well, for what I bought, it'd be $200 in a comic shop, $150 on Amazon, and $100 on Amazon marketplace.
You can suck my balls if you think I'm gonna pay double to simply support something. Not my fault they don't lower the MSRP on anything in stores. If it were cost effective, heck yeah, I would only buy from shops. But its not. Some I pick up here and there but mostly I do my bidness online.
Were I buying single issues, sure, comic shop all the way. However, I'm not, so...

Precisely.
$20 for Captain America Red Skull in a shop, $9.95 on Amazon marketplace. Loyalty be damned. I buy them, I don't download them anymore, that's enough.

Well, like I said, a 50% discount is tough to pass up. But, a good comic shop will give you 10 or 20% off if you start a pull list.

i've been haunting independant comic shops over the last few months. i prefer to buy in stores, as opposed to online- i'm old fashioned i guess.
part of the fun is rummaging through those long boxes, looking that one particualr issue...

You can always hit a con...they sell books at a fantastic discount there. Especially the last day as they don't want to carry those heavy books back to their store.

Apparently there are a few more Borders stores in NYC that are getting all the books from around the country, I think they are the last two stores in fact, and they have a shYIT ton of TPBs at ridiculous prices, so I'll have to check that out.
I can't wait to piece together a complete collection like Val has for Superman and the Flash. I don't think I have much to find but man, yeah, looking is half the fun. I love comic book shops. Love'em. Always have.

I just got Powers Definitive Vol. 1, Sandman, V, and Cap Vol 2.
GodDAMMIT, I'm way more excited about this than I should be. I was wrong, too, I have NINE days off.
This may be much to ask, but anyone have a recommended reading order? Should I start with the light stuff and go darker, or reverse that, or intersperse? Alphabetical might be the way to go.

Save Sandman until it gets closer to Halloween. Even though it isn't really a horror series, the first volume has a really cool EC horror feel. The first issue was very much done in the style of the old Tales From The Crypt comics from the 50s.

Okay. Nerd Week has begun.
I've watched almost all of the first season of Batman: The Animated Series. It's fucking awesome. AWESOME. I love it, so. And now...the comic reviews.
All Star Superman: Wow. Indeed, if there is just ONE Superman story you ever read, let it be this one. It's wonderful. Perfect. It's everything Superman needs to be and more. The art is gorgeous. I remember when it first came out, I didn't care for it at all, but now, I feel like Quitely may be THE Superman artist of recent time. And the coloring. Cripes. That's another thing that's really stepped it up a huge amount in the comic world. Coloring. It's almost ridiculous now, how beautiful comic books can be. The story itself, of course, is the best thing about it. I wish the animated movie had every fucking thing from the comic in it. I wanna watch it again, as I feel, ironically, there are a few things it does better than the comic does, but comparatively, the movie is nothing. The comic is everything. All Star rules. What a way to start this off.
Arkham Asylum: I read this for the first time a couple of weeks ago and didn't really care for it all that much. I wanted to read it again, though, to be sure. So I just read it. Now, I care for it. I don't think it's brilliant or anything, but it's pretty fucking good. The little script notes at the end of the book really help, too, that was the main reason to read it all again. Art is terrifying. Story is, too. Just very well done. Morrison begins his takeover. Good for him.
Up next: Astonishing X-Men!

Don't bother with Powers as single issues. Bendis stuff is really decompressed. That storyline DOES pay off, but not until about five issues in.
I got all the trades off a friend who was moving, and, no joke, I read like all 13 volumes in a week. Once it gets going...boyoboy does it get goin'...

Astonishing X-Men
While certainly not ground breaking with content or anything, the dialogue is a heck of a lot of fun, as is the book overall. The art is quite good, more simplistic, I like that, I don't wanna spend ten minutes on each page. I like how Scott is in this. I don't like Cyclops being lame and bland. I dunno why but I like the character. I like him having a personality. I'm glad he has one in this. Beast is FANTASTIC.
I'll definitely check out the next volume of this.
Next up, Captain America: Red Menace!

Captain America: Red Menace
Ugh. So good. This is only the second time I've read a stand alone Cap book, and I feel like I've been reading them all my life. It's fucking fantastic. I want them all. Probably, so far, my favorite thing to read out of all the comics I've read in the past few months. Such fun. I will probably end up getting the entire Brubaker run.
Daredevil: Born Again
Well. This was fucking amazing. One of the best hero stories I've ever read. Fantastic. Miller reached the top really damn quick and just started to degrade from there, it seems. This had to have been eye opening when it first came out. Goddamn, is it dark. The shittiness of that era NYC, heck's Kitchen, is so well put forth, you almost feel like you're there. I look forward to reading this again, one day. What a great idea for the last two parts of a proper DD film trilogy.
Irredeemable
I knew absolutely nothing about this other than good word of mouth and loving Mark Waid, when he's on. He's on here. Oh, is he on. What if Superman went bad? This is basically that story, with a similar "hero" that just loses it. It's awesome. It's terrifying. It's REALLY awesome. Definitely want to get the next volume for this.
Up next, potentially my most anticipated title: JLI!
