I read Wizard for years. The internet made it more and more obsolete and unneeded as time went on except for exclusive interviews and things like that.
LMS was in the magazine too when it was still around.

Wait, is...is Wizard not happening anymore?
That SUCKS.
I mean, it sure turned to shit, that magazine, but man, from its inception 'til about five or six years on, it was KING. God, I used to devour every page's information. Loved it.
Vally, didn't you work on Wizard for a little bit?

Here's the thing about Wizard...
...they ignored the internet. They've been irrelevant for at least seven years, and now they're essentially gone. They're trying to reposition themselves as a blog/news site like CBR or Newsarama, but it looks like it's too little too late. I have no sympathy for ANY industry which tries to ignore the march of progress. It fucked the record industry and it's fucked any print organization that tried to stick their head in the sand, and Wizard was the WORST offender in that respect.
Wizard was the greatest through the 90s. I don't buy any of that "they made comics bad" garbage. They were the only magazine around who didn't talk down to their audience. Was it kinda "dude/bro" heavy? Sure. But that was the industry. They weren't there to be some kind of oppositional/defiant media team, they were there to talk about what the kids (us) wanted to read/hear about.

Wizard didn't kill comics, comics killed comics.
Variant covers, foil covers, aluminum covers, all that bullshit, comics became about gimmicks, not content. If it was about the art, the story suffered GREATLY. If it was about the story, the art suffered GREATLY.
That's when I got out, it just became too much.

Just noticed this thread.
I got into comics really heavy twice in my life, (1991-1994 and 2002-2004). Both times, I got out because it got to be too damn much.
I got really into Ultimate X-Men and Spiderman. Then it was the Ultimates, then Ultimate Fantastic Four, then Ultimate Iron Man, and before you know it, there's an ultimate title for every fucking character.
It's hard to just follow two or three titles because then they start overlapping.
And, of course, the stories are good so you go with it for a while.
And then the fat guy or skinny dweek at the comic store starts selling you the idea of Batman: Dark Knight Pisses In the Night and Superman: Corn Flakes in the Morning coming up next month and you don't want to miss out on the story because the fat guy/skinny dweeb is talking it up.
So you start adding titles to your file. Before you know it, a chunk of your paycheck is starting to go towards these fucking things.
Boy, do I love and hate comics.

Ditto.
Comics lost me when they became super crossover heavy instead of more stand alone issues. You had to buy every issue of like...every title to get the whole story. And you never got a break between megacrossovers. Combined with the every rising price and the stupid gimmicks and it was all to much.
