I like it better than the "earth 1" design. Though, the red on the shoulder kinda looks weird. We'll see how it looks when actually drawn proper and not just a sketch.

In general, everything I've seen and read about the new Earth-2 projects look and sound like shit. However, this Superman design is great. I definitely prefer it to the "official" version.

I also like this one more than the other new costume. At least this one can be better hidden under normal cloths or a suit. No super high collar.
Man, people have been getting a lot of mileage out of variations of the electric blue Superman S haven't they? I like it but that might be the one thing I'd want to change most on this Earth 2 suit. I'd make it more like the MOS movie S.

Maybe Earth 2's Superman is the real one, the one we know and love.
This Superman that's in the New 52....what if it's Prime? He sure acts like it.

Unlikely.
The Earth-2 stuff sounds pretty dreadful so far, and it sounds like Supes is even MORE "deviant" than the "main" one. I'll check out the first issue, but I don't have high hopes.
I think the problem we've had so far with the main Supes is: 1) in Action Comics, Grant has deliberately written him as brash/arrogant to make a point. Since Grant has already proven many times that this isn't his view for how Superman should always behave, it's safe to say it's just a function of the story, as he's just feeling his way/really young.
2) The "modern day" Superman in ummmm...Superman behaves strangely because it has been an EXTRAORDINARILY poorly-written book. Where, it should be noted, EVERYONE behaves like a mopey dildo.
3) Superman behaves strangely in Justice League because that book has zero characterization and is basically written for video game fans. The last two issues were a video game boss fight. I ordinarily would refuse to believe that Geoff Johns is this poor of a writer, but coming off of his underwhelming last year on Green Lantern and Flash, plus the turd that was Flashpoint, I'm starting to worry that he's lost his touch.
I think sooner rather than later, at least in his own titles, Supes will start behaving a little more like we're accustomed to seeing.
And if I never, EVER see or hear from Superboy-Prime again, it'll be too soon. Awful character. Geoff's vanity project that he insisted on shoehorning into everything...

I'm pretty goddamn sure Johns has lost it.

yes that Earth2 design of Superman is much better. The belt design has a pseudo-red-underpant's theme to it.
With this design, the absence of the red pants aint glaring, we don't miss it too much when we look at this belt
The overall design is sleek & simple, not gadgety/armoury like the Earth1 suit. My only gripe is his boots looking too Batmanish

Exactly. My biggest problem with the main Superman design is the awkward, armor-y feel it has. It seems too bulky. I haven't seen any drawings of it where it looks sleek or streamlined. THIS design does. I totally understand the need/desire to make it a sci-fi element of the character (as opposed to the dreadful "My mom made it" explanation), but when it looks too much like armor, you're missing the point of the character.
I rather like the low neckline, the way the cape hugs the shoulders and seems part of the S (I think the "S" should basically BE part of the cape), and having some yellow in the red mid-section helps tremendously.

the impression i get is that earth-2 versions are more violent than the Nu52 "core" versions. i can understand, if this is an "echo" of the golden age, the first few years of ACTION or DETECTIVE where batman and superman were not "murderous" as such but wouldn't lose any sleep over a criminal dying, or the death penalty. in fact early batman WOULD shoot a criminal.
also, robinson was a decent writer if i recall, and i don;t think that "will he kill?" ends up that he does kill (maybe) but it could just as well be like "what's so funny about truth justice and the american way?" which is about to be adapted to an animated "superman vs elite"
i havent read any comics since the first issues of new 52. i get the superman titles for me, and green lantern for my son but i havent got around to them yet.

Other than Action, you ain't missing much.
The Shazam back-ups start in the next issue of Justice League, though!
