I've heard in these parts that some people prefer SIV to SR and was curious to how many people here actually do.
Was there already an actual poll?

Superman Returns is the better film in almost every way (I voted for it) but I enjoy SIV more despite all its many many MANY flaws. Does that make any kind of sense?

Both are pieces of shit in my opinion, but for different reasons. The size and smell of their shit is different. Superman Returns could have been so awesome and should have been... but it wasn't. I know some here love it though and it's been argued to death.
Superman IV is garbage and doesn't even have one decent sequence to save it (like how Superman III sort of does). However, it does have one thing... Christopher Reeve. It also has better music, so I give the nod based on that. Nothing to brag about though, they both suck in my book and I'll never revisit either.
Having said that, I'm pretty sure both will be better than Man Of Steel...

fuck. this. shit.
we buried it six years ago.
"superman 4 had chris reeve" it's like saying a "cult" is ok, because at least it had jesus.
fuck.
superman4 is irredeemable garbage. i don't care who showed up to phone it in. returns may not have given you multiple orgasms, but the professional calibre that superman merits was there.

I must have gone to take a leak during that part, because I didn't see anything like that. Seriously, I don't really care about either film... they are both crap. Picking one over the other is like asking me if I want to be stabbed or shot.

If I had to watch either one of them at any point, I'd choose SIV easy.
I know its shit but its for me, more entertaining and far less depressing than SR.

Or have you forgotten? You remember when there was a little group here who actually preferred SIV to STM? I think General Zod (the board member) was the "leader" of that. He even had a sig with all the board members names who loved SIV. It was a picture of Clark by the farm in SIV and the title was SIV Fans Forever.

At least SIV and SR can both look at Batman & Robin and make fun of it. They've always got that going for them. of course I'm just waiting for the person who says SR is as bad as Batman & Robin. It's bound to happen

Threads come and go, having this thing exist doesn't really bug me, but I think it's a bit silly, that's all. I do think, though, that eventually there will be one that compares SR to lung cancer....

Some people generally don't think its a good film. Pretty much proven but the way the whole films release and reception seemed like a non event

Superman IV has a better musical score than SR.....and that's about it. Yeah... no. ;D S4's music is a little overrated, imo. As for the two movies... SR is a mix of good ideas, bad ideas and inconsistent execution. S4 is a piece of shit.

SR was ok, but it should've been way better.
I really don't get how a filmmaker with such obvious good intentions and respect for the material could make such an underachieving film. And when you take that and take into account that he did a magnificent job with the first two X-Men films, you wind up with a perfect riddle.
SIV is worse, but I'll probably watch it more times in my lifetime simply because of Reeve and Hackman being in those roles.

Singers entire filmmaking style and his life experiences were simply better suited to crafting X-men films than Superman films.
Superman's an outsider but not so much that he feels so keenly self conscious and ostracized because of it. He's accepted by the public while The X-men are shunned. That alone makes for a different tone to the stories and the mindset of the characters.

To me, the only/main thing missing was juiced up superhero action.... considering the amount of money put in (even if it's debatable what the real budget is), I think the studio was wrong not to pressure Singer to include fresher bits of Superman in action or a superpowered action sequence- the screenwriter was pushing for a superpowered fistfight, and I agree it would have energized the movie quite a bit.
The introspection I was totally fine with, but having that AND a real-estate driven Lex made the film not nearly as strong as I feel it could have been. Saving the big action for part two was being too overconfident..... *sigh*

Actually, I will agree that SIV's score is better than SR's. While SR has flashes of brilliance, SIV really does deliver a consistently invigorating score with its own identity, but also expanding upon the existing themes (rather than just quoting them verbatim).
That's about it's only upper hand though.

This poll is clearly a sad joke for anyone with some taste in decent filmmaking. I won't even vote because it's an absurd poll, period. All this hate is unwarranted.
SR is a good film, while SIV is a joke. Not even Reeve can save it, yes even he phoned in his performance and didn't even train to get in S shape. It was just a pay check, nothing more. Sorry but I call it as I see it.
I don't get this at all. I think the opposite is true.
