The best choices for Lois Lane besides Kidder?

For the look, I liked Anne Archer followed by Lesley Ann Warren.

Acting wise, I actually thought Stockard Channing was good. The problem, though, is that she went on to become Rizzo. And so when I see her screen test, I see Rizzo as Lois Lane. I'm not too concerned about her looks, especially her hair, since I'm sure they would've made her look the part. I thought Channing had that bitchy reporter thing down pat.

You're right about the bitchy part, but it's hard to see a characterization like that pull of the love angle that Donner and Mankiewicz felt was a major element in making the movie work. Channing would have overpowered Reeve instead of compliment his screen presence, as Kidder did.

Agreed..... but my guess is that much of the credit belongs to director, not necessarily just Kidder. To me, it was Donner that was able to get the charm out of Kidder- At the time, she hated working with Reeve and I'm sure was resentful towards Lester.....not the best circumstances at all.

Add to that, the change in scripting to make Lois funny and childlike at times- to, instead, a Lois who's whiny, bitchy, and needy all at once. (Originally the Honeymoon Haven had Clark as the whiny & bitchy one, which I think is funnier because we'd all know it was Supes under fake mood).

In SIV....Lois isn't whiny and bitchy, but I had problems with her performance throughout. Felt forced. Was it the director or Kidder?

From what I've read, Sydney Furie had sincere intents, but was doomed from the start with a slashed to nothing budget. Add to that, a cast who'd already played the parts previously..... so who knows which actors would have been receptive to direction by that point? Like Lester, it's a pity Furie won't talk about his Superman involvement in any detail.....

anne archer had the look, and she ages very well.
she still looks good.

she definately played it dumbed down- but that was a screen test and i think better direction might have fixed it.

if superman gave up his powers for her i'd throw my pepsi at the screen and leave!
