Appearing on AICN today: Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic! I promised an epic superhero shot today and I don’t think I’ve disappointed. This photo fits my personal definition of epic… which is, of course, Christopher Reeve rocking aviators and a bathrobe over his Superman costume while entertaining elderly fans during the filming of the Niagara Falls sequence in Superman II. That’s everybody’s definition of epic, right? What's truly epic about this is the crowd around Christopher Reeve. They're not fawning over a movie star. They truly see him as Superman. Just look at their faces! This is an interesting photo, submitted by the son of a newspaperman from the St. Catharines Standard, a neighboring city to Niagara. His father received this shot from the staff photographer and as far as I know it hasn’t seen publication since whatever story it appeared in… if it even made it to the newspaper at all. One funny bit about these tourists as noted by the original photographer… the lady in the crowd with the Instamatic has it backwards, so she’s getting a nice shot of her eyeball here.

He looks so bad ass there.
I bet O'Halloran is right. I bet Reeve was a massive prick back then. He sure looks it.

Well, I have a doubt that either Reeve nor O'Halloran was a saint. But.... even with Margot Kidder's battles with Reeve, she's always said that he handled the 'star' thing much better than she did, and presumably that included dealing with the public at large. Couldn't be an easy thing to have so much fame overnight at 25, definitely with everyone watching every move. Still.... The sunglasses and robe are a little weird to be wearing over the costume, admittedly- it gives off the appearance of being a prima dona, and it's a little strange because the theatre rule was generally that you don't interact with audience members in costume- coming from the theatre, I would have thought that he would never be talking with the fans in costume, so maybe this is a compromise? Dunno.... Add to it all, I've only heard negative reports from co-stars about Reeve to now- not fans, directors or writers that I know of that had anything negative to say about him. Were there other reports of Reeve being a jerk beyond that?

Probably had to wear the robe as not to get the suit dirty, and maybe it was a sunny day hence the shades?
Great pic though!

Yeah, was gonna say about the shades, they're at Niagara Falls. The sunlight reflecting off of all that water must be INTENSE lol. Also, I'd wear glasses while interacting with fans so that I can see/read their reactions better, not to make them feel like I'm shutting them out.

Yea, he often wore a robe over the costume which is evident in the making ofs. So what if he was wearing shades, a natural thing to do on a sunny day, right? I love that picture... cool as fuck!

Everyone is also wearing coats, the robe might be keeping him warm between scenes.
Awesome picture though.

Could be.... but it's a pity there's no video available to accompany this. Again, I don't recall ANY fan having a negative experience with Reeve, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say he treated them all well and considering the power of the internet, I'm sure we would have heard of it by now if it wasn't so. I'm just commenting on how it looks/looked a little odd at first glance.

Well.... I'm not a fan of the MOS costume, but I think given the two, I wouldn't be in favor of the bathrobe.... On another note...... has anyone been able to determine yet whether or not the lack of red trunks is due to aftereffects of the Siegel lawsuit???

He already has the shades on, so it could also pass for "DEAL WITH IT"
