Curious... given that we're not getting that SR sequel, sooner or later Richard White (unless they planned to kill him off first) was going to find out Jason wasn't technically his kid, and that Lois has a lot of 'splaining to do.
If you were him.... would you let it go, or would it be a good reason to fly away (in his plane, that is)?

I hate kids. I hate them in movies even more than I hate them in real life. Therefore, the answer is "no".

She lied to him for years??
Always had the idea that he knew the kid wasn't his. He just didn't exactly know who the father was. I think near the end of the film he realized who was Jason's father.. if not he'd have to be really dense, but then lots of men are. ;D
Hmm I think Lois has some feelings for him, but her true love is Supes. Period. Maybe Richard could stick around if she wants him to and treats him well. Besides, Superman is too busy saving the world to be the husband and father Lois and Jason really need I guess. So anything could have happened. But if I was Richard, I probably leave her alone or let her decide. It's the adult way.

Would *I* have stayed with Lois? No, it's clear her true love is for another man. Doesn't mean I can't still be part of Jason's life, but I don't have to be Lois' husband.
Would *he have stayed with Lois? Yes, probably until either the end of the sequel or at some point in another future sequel, where he would be written out somehow (became a drunk, died etc.) That was bound to happen.

Annette O'Toole, young or old, whatever.
If the character is played by James Marsden and he has a woman....he's gonna have trouble. ;D

Did White think the kid was his all along? I don't remember getting that impression.
With a $2M mansion and private plane, you think they'd pay for a nanny instead of dragging the kid to the Daily Planet and on assignments

Some VERY interesting responses here, thanks folks- It's a little suprising, I really thought everybody had the same assumptions about what Richard did/didn't know and what Lois led on. She lied to him for years?? If your perception is right--- do you feel Lois ALWAYS knew it was Supes. I always got the idea that Richard thought it WAS his- and that LOIS thought it was possibly his, too.... but then that means that (presumably) Lois slept with Richard around the same time frame as sleeping with Supes--- BUT..... with the whole 'alien physiology/dna' thingee, one could creatively argue that the time frame didn't/doesn't have to necessarily follow the same rules as with regular human folk.... I think that Richard's a total fool for sticking around, if he has hopes that Lois will ever really love him, imo. He asked her in the middle of the film about whether or not she slept with Supes, and she was dodgy on the answer, she refuses a marriage proposal (I think it was mentioned or implied) from him, it's more than a bit cruel on her part (not to mention more than a little bit of selfishness to endanger her kid going on stories involving Lex/etc.- but it did fit her personality) to let her son get close to a surrogate father that she will ultimately reject. There are folks I know that have entered similar situations like Richard did- with mixed results.... one got into a fantastic marriage, another one is in a living heck. But then again- it's not with Superman as the other guy. Fictional romance in SR, of course, but intriguing to me as to how they would have 'solved' this storyline with three people who were basically good folks who didn't want to hurt anyone- but if it were real, I like Tristan's suggestion that Richard could still be part of Jason's life (he seems like a good guy), but just dumb as a brick to stick around Lois (let alone work with her), unless he just doesn't mind being in a longterm relationship with someone who would unintentionally treat him like a doormat. People aren't perfect, which is what I loved about SR- even when they have good intentions. I suspect if SR 2 happened, that Richard would have been the sacrificial lamb of the story- and get Supes really riled up to whoopass on the villains. Anyhow, if it was flipped around, and it was a gal who was obsessed to a guy who was never going to treat her #1, people would tell her to move on, and fast, I imagine.

I just realized the choices "Is Annette O'Toole available?" and "Buh-bye!" might be more/less the same choice. Oh well.... in any case, doesn't seem like anyone has real hope for Lois/Richard's relationship right now, looking at the votes.... Maybe Richard/Kitty would be a better match? On a similar note, maybe I should rephrase the first choice... "I'm always around...NOT!"

;D I can imagine Singer offering him the job: "Richard White is a character who is in love with a woman who really is in love with someone else. It's NOTHING like Cyclops in Xmen!" (Or any of your other roles...) Poor guy. I can imagine him wondering as an actor what the heck people see in him that automatically make him cast as 'the other guy who never really is good enough to get the girl'.... can't be good for self-esteem...

If I was Richard White, I wouldn't want to be in Superman Returns.

;D Some people don't value their kids as much as their private planes, I guess. Anyhow- Yeah, Lois definitely has a way of getting the nice places to live in, considering journalists generally make next to nothing. (Maybe that's why she's so desperate for a Pulitzer Prize- hoping there's good money with it). How is it that Lois gets a penthouse apartment and Clark gets that dump with barely any lighting in SIV? Why would a Superman even consider living there if he didn't have to? I guess that apartment has a little more furniture and electricity than the Fortress of Solitude (although the bed looks pretty darn comfortable in SII--- on the minus side, no cable tv and I question just exactly what Miss Teschmacher used in SII as the toilet).... Anyhow...
