Hey Everyone within the driving distance to Ann Arbor Michigan. I just found out that STM will be screened on Saturday June 2nd at 11:30am (10:45 doors) at the State theater in downtown Ann Arbor (Go Wolverines) as part of the Cinetopia International Film Festival. The state theater is a smaller theater that shows more independent and limited release films. It's not as nice as the Michigan theater just down the street, but it's still not a bad theater at all. Tickets go on sale on May 10, but you can usually buy tickets to the state at the door, unless they are sold out. But, if your going, why take the chance, pre-order the tickets for sure. Looks like tickets will be 15 bucks each. I will be there for sure. It would be cool to organize some kind of get together, I have never met anyone from the boards before, so might be kinda cool. Here's the info www.michtheater.org/shows/superman/Additional information regarding the film festival www.michtheater.org/cinetopia/cinetopia-schedule/www.michtheater.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Cinetopia-Full-Schedule.pdfany one interested in a meetup

It's part of the film festival, they are showing more than 30 different films in 4 days split between three tiers of theater venues. The Michigan Theater (best venue, this is an old style classic movie house, it's fantastic) the state theater (still a really cool place, they show great saturday midnight screenings, ghostbusters was screened last month, more of a cult movie theater) and Angell Hall (a University of Michigan lecture hall). STM got placed at the second best, so at least it's not at the lecture hall (where I spent countless hours during undergrad). 11:30 isn't the best showtime, but I'll take it.

when STM RDC was released, the OHIO theater carried it (they also screen vintage/cult movies). beautiful palace theater. so COOL to see it on the big screen!

I hear ya, Jor! I'd match that and go up one: STM is one of those rare instances where I WOULD love to see the powers that be convert it to 3d on the bigscreen... seems especially suited for 3d with the soft focus backgrounds chosen by Unsworth back then! Can imagine how nice it would look....but would never happen, unless James Cameron was in charge of it....*sigh*

''South Florida - COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN'S HOPE, THE STAN LEE STORY, SUPERMAN II: THE DONNER CUT, Tim Burton's BATMAN and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Are All Coming Your Way This Weekend!! Published at: May 07, 2012 3:00:19 PM CDT
The Kidd here...
Alright, South Florida geeks... this is something you're definitely going to want to take advantage since it's not every day we get something like this being put together in our neck of the woods.
Starting this Thursday, May 10th, and going until Sunday, May 13 (Mother's Day), the O Cinema - 90 NW 29th Street, Miami - is having what they're billing as Comic Book Movie Weekend. Now what does that entail? Multiple showings of the Morgan Spurlock documentary COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN'S HOPE, multiple showings of the documentary WITH GREAT POWER: THE STAN LEE STORY and late night showings of SUPERMAN II: THE DONNER CUT (Friday night, as introduced by yours truly), Tim Burton's BATMAN (Saturday night, with the Batmobile out on the premises) and the 1990 live-action TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (Sunday night). You wanted cool stuff to come to South Florida...? Well, here it is.
You can snag your tickets for all of the showtimes HERE, or try your luck at the box office the night of... but definitely be sure to come on out, because... well, look at the films on the bill for the weekend.
And, for a few of our South Florida Ain't It Cool readers, I've got your entry right here.
I've got three pairs of seats for Friday night's 7:00 showing of WITH GREAT POWER, and I've got three pairs of seats for Friday night's 9:00 showing of COMIC-CON. Want a shot at them? Then let me hear your ultimate geek geek-out moment. We've all had our encounters over the years in some form or another, but along the way, there's been one moment that stands out over all of them that ranks as your ultimate geek-out moment. You saw someone, you met someone, you shook someone's hand, you took someone's pictures. Whatever it is, I want to hear your story, and then I'll take the six most awesome and hook you up with tickets.
Send it along with your full name over to Contests@AintItCool.com with the following subject line exactly (in all CAPS):
EMBRACE YOUR GEEK
You've got until 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, May 9, to get your entries into me. You'll know if you won the following day with winners being emailed and posted up on the site.
This should be one pretty fun weekend. Good luck. ''
I would love a screening of STM/II in the UK, no such luck...

That STM trailer made by Cameron Arrigoni on the cinema's website is absolutely brilliant - the pacing of the trailer builds to a superb climax - and that's exactly how I want the trailer for Man of Steel to look like!

I don't know how long tickets will be available for. If the theater doesn't sell out, then all the way up until the start of the show. However, it isn't a very big theater, but on the other hand it is an 11:30 am showing.

Are they screening film prints or just a DVD/Blu-ray?

Watching DVDs on a movie screen is a horrible experience, as the sound is not really designed for them and how they're projected looks way off. I have yet to see a Blu-ray in a theater, but nothing can beat a film print.

Hopefully it's an actual film version. But, knowing the history of the theater I can't imagine that they would just throw up a dvd projection.

Hm... I think it's a case by case basis. I attended a couple of local filmmakers' showings of their film at rented out 'real' movie theatres in the area with a dvd projector, and it seemed fine. On the flip side, if it's an old beat up print..... (I remember the 'director's extended cut' of Alien that went out to theatres & being pretty horrified at how much 20th Century fox DIDN'T clean it up!)... a film print with a ton of scratches and artifacts loses a good chunk of its romanticism being on the bigscreen.... (imo)
