I'm watching SII and watching Non pick up the shotgun from under the police car when something occurred to me:
Is Zod, Non and Ursa supposed to be kind of a tougher take on the Lex, Otis, Teschmacher dynamic? Leader, dumbass sidekick, female sidekick?

Interesting point!
Under Donner, it seems to be a scarier parallel to that trio (I look to the moon attack and the white house attack scenes as the most 'pure' versions of what Donner had in mind, although the extended bits with the barking dog at the white house and the guy on the phone is a headscratcher if Donner wanted it all serious)---
Under Lester, I think you're right- the PZ criminals are more like an only slightly edgier version of the Lex trio, even thought there are the Donner scenes blended into the mix....
