People seem to really like it. But- if pushed to ask, do you really like it as much or better (or worse) than the STM costume?

Apples and oranges, really. Aesthetically, I like it just as much as the STM costume. In fact, I prefer the shade of red and blue (particularly the blue) over STM's. And I prefer the MoS logo.
The thing is, the STM costume looks as great as it does because it's on Reeve. Off him, it's unremarkable. This current suit, out of context, is certainly INTERESTING to look at, and looks like an artifact of some kind, while the STM suit just looks like a Superman costume.
Still, I can't really judge until I see the teaser properly and see Cavill in motion in it. I have to believe that he's doing the work, and not the suit, y'know? There was no room for cheating in the STM costume, and Reeve certainly made us believe.

I think it's the perfect balance of updating the suit. Most of us all grew up with the STM costume, and as far as childhood memory goes it will always be cherished. However I think this new MOS suit will go on to be just as strong in the years ahead.

Let's see it in action and let it settle a while before we go saying what suit is the best.

I'll own up to the fact that you & Kev are totally right- there's no way to REALLY see how well this works- and to be fair: it's not going to kill the picture for me. I hate the black leather suits in Xmen, but enjoy the movies anyways.
BUT..... since we can talk about the general design at this point, why not? It won't hurt anybody.
I don't mind the armor texture so much, and I don't mind them trying to make alterations/modifications, but I don't think it's the worst way they could have gone, but to me it kind of reinforces just how hard it is to overcome a design that's nearly perfect.
Everyone has their favorites, if I had to choose a design (I'm fine wiht the texture again, not talking about that) that wasn't the STM one- then the black turtleneck w/silver 'S' shield and red cape that was online years ago designwise is preferable (to me) than the extra leg and arm bits that go up and down it.
But, mainly was curious how people feel at this point, as the majority seem to favor it....just wanted to know for curiosity's sake how much they favor it.

Overall design wise, I like it better than STMs. But that's just where we're at now. Keeping up with the Joneses and all.
If this were 1978, I would prefer STMs I'm sure.
STM's is great for its time and place. I think this new one will be great for its time and place.
So I voted "just as good as."

I was about to say what Kevin said.
I want to see the film before I make up my mind. I'm definitely not feeling the wrists, but let's see.

When I see it on the big screen on Friday, that'll help in a big way.

Well, if nothing else, with all that texture, MOS's costume certainly looks HEAVIER than STM's costume.... Wonder which one hides armpit stains better?

I think it'll look good in action. In that spy pic where Cavill is making a punching motion, I didn't see any of the weird bunching (especially at the shoulders) the Spider-Man and SR costumes had. It almost looks hyper-tailored, rather than excessively padded or augmented; cut and shaped to specifically fit Cavill's muscle structure. Comparing the suit pics to his actual physique from the oil rig shoot, it doesn't look like there's much room for padding- the abs look like they've been augmented somehow, but that's about it.
For STM vs. MOS, I prefer the new suit. I love the basic design; the proportions are about as perfect as they could be; cape length, boot size, shield size, they all look spot-on. The Reeve suit is also great, that goes without saying, but the short cape length and high beltline have been nitpicks for me.

I like the color and the texture is interesting....but the extra stuff on the arms and legs just feel unnecessary. It's like putting extra decoration on a flag on parts that don't need it. (I felt with the same with the extra 's's and 's' belt in SR).
The lack of trunks I'd gotten over, but the extra stuff is annoying....but, as mentioned, if the movie is great, probably won't even be noticeable.

Stray thought from looking at the comicon iron man 3 thing... What if- like the animated 'Allstar Superman'--- Superman has different garb for ceremonies/etc.? If Iron Man can have different armor, can/should Superman have different costumes as well (but hopefully with some reasoning as to WHY he should/would have different ones)? On another note- suprised that the voting is pretty close!

This poll needs a "We'll see after the film comes out" option.
Given the options that we have I had to go with MOS.
Like Val said the STM suit off Reeve is nothing special at all. The MOS suit looks pretty bad ass, even by itself.

Was considering that option--- but the movie is a year away-- by then, the poll will be long forgotten anyhow, I figure... (could be forgotten a few days from now, for that matter, too)
Like I said, just curious where people are at now, knowing that all could change once the movie comes out....

I personally prefer the look of the Reeve costume but otherwise its too soon to have much of an opinion. We haven't even seen it in motion or in action.
Reeve's suit is more "pure" but its not just the suit but the man in it that "sells it."
Both things count. Its too early to tell with Cavill but Reeve sold the heck out of that costume. It was like a second skin on him and he seemed totally at home in it.
On a lesser actor it may not have looked AS good.
Reeves was the same way. The suit is simple but George Reeves was supremely confident in it. It was partly his performance that sold the whole package.

I agree.... though with the armpit stain- problem that reportedly plagued the Reeve movies, I think he almost became a little TOO at home with the costume as a 'second skin'.... Fortunately for Cavill, sfx technology has advanced so much so that armpit stains on superhero costumes can now be easily erased. Therefore, Henry can make as many pit stains as he wants while playing Superman (vs. Reeve's day when they had to take a break and bring out the blowdryers) and keep on going!

Armpit stains don't happen when the suit is made of....whatever the Cavill and Routh suits were made of. They look like wetsuits.

MOS Costume Stinks ... STM Costume Rules ....
Enough Said.
I will watch the movie ... but I just don't care for the new look of Superman and the changes that been currently happening at DC Comics and the New 52. To me, it is the worst thing that they ever done in the history of that iconic company.

Ok,first of I dont like the new suit,an old saying gos,IF IT AINT BROKE,DONT FIX IT. The shorts/trunks why take em away, they were always part of the outfit. No they were not underware worn on the outside, they were the perfict break in the design like Batmans. Its just, you get a few guys with big ideas(stupid ideas) and they deside they will fix something that aint broke!Looking at the current Batman movies, great story lines, crap suit and veichels. If Bats were real,he wouldnt be able to funcition properley, these guys have gone over the top with rubber/rubber look.Saying that Bats cape looks dreadfull with the suit, they should have made the cape more of rubber look as well and not a flimsey curtin look. Anyway if you are going to update SUPERMANS SUIT,give him back his dignity. The new suit, with trunks, yellow S symbol on cape and Chris Reeves S symbol on the chest, althoe updated to suit the suit ya dig! I do think Henery will make a fine Superman, its just a shame about the suit.Long Live Christopher Reeve,Long Live SUPERMAN! I will be back to bitch more later, LOL! Jauzman....Peace.

If they used lyrca and a Reeve style costume people would laugh at the film, no question about it.
I think it looks brilliant, if I could have had that kind of material for Reeve I'd have loved it.
