I had an enormous "reservoir of goodwill" for Cap America when I watched it. I look forward to the sequel (and looking forward to checking it and the Avengers again)
That's an unfair statement. Lois Lane had moved on, had a kid; Cap America won the girl (plus she was about a million times hotter and wasn't a bitch)
Cap America didn't eavesdrop private conversations then mope around like a teenager either.

Great way to reintroduce the character to the big screen after 2 decades eh? See Captain America for how it should have been done. So true. If I was a kid now, I'm sure in 20 years I'd belong to a "Captain America Cinema Forum." Cap would be my guy, not Superman. But only because Cap is so upbeat, the same way Reeve's Superman was back then. He's unapologetic in his convictions. And when it comes down to it, that matters to me much more than whatever emblem is on the chest.

Superman is supposed to be decisive and authoritive. The leader of the Justice League FFS.
I just can't see Routh's Superman doing that.
Batman currently has more gravitas.
WTF happened?

Why would I be depressed over a planet I never lived on, nor remember? It would be like seeing pictures about WWII. Terrible tragedy- I had relatives in the front line - but I never experienced it personally and I'm not depressed over it. Sounds like he had too much time on his hands. "Yeaahh, I think I'll go check out Krypton for a bit. These humans are beginning to bore me."

If you were the LAST living surviving member of a race and went there in person, to see the cratered remains of the civilization, I imagine it would have an effect. Overall, I get why some feel that SR was nothing but sadness and wrong for Supes. They want Supes to be a strong leader; Singer interpreted Supes as a metaphor for Christ, who was always sad, always bummed by the world's needing a savior and seeing no ultimate salvation for it. Captain America wants nothing more than to be at the forefront contributing to the war effort; so in a sense he does get his wish during the movie; but Supes gets his sense of home and center at the end--- Out of the potential scripts I'd read for Supes in the interim, (read the Smith one & the Greg Poittier ones in full) I still feel SR is by far the best version- but, again, I wasn't disappointed by SR as a whole, others were greatly disappointed. Not much more to add to that, I suppose...

Cam, I'd be curious to know what you think of the Abrams script. It's got its problems, but it's an interesting read!

I read the script summaries about the changes to the Superman mythos, but never got ahold of the actual script. Do you have a link?

Didn't you know that to be an unhappy superhero is the 'in' thing at the moment?
It makes them more human and the viewer can then relate to them more.
;D
Anyway, yes I have to agree this aspect is getting a bit tiresome. That's what makes Avengers so good. It was so good to finally watch a superhero movie without feeling like there was a whole load of personal baggage to get through. It just got to the point and didn't take itself too seriously. Sure there are aspects of the characters having to 'deal' with certain issues but it's not what drives the whole movie. That's why Avengers and STM are my top 2 feel good superhero movies.
