Just for fun, I tried to make a trailer matching Donner footage to the MOS trailer. Barring the dialogue at the beginning, I think it works quite well.
Tell me what you think.

Not bad Melv. I think it's really hard to match up giving the contrasting styles of the two films

Damn. That was pretty awesome. Well done. Didn't think it would work but it did.

Very nice! Like Kevin said, I didn't think there could be any way it would work, but it gives new 'juice' to Donner footage that we'd seen a million times over.
Makes me curious what a full-on fan edit with Zimmer music would look like. It may sound like blasphemy to suggest replace Williams' music for STM, but it definitely adds a fresh layer to it.

Nice, Melv. I love these kinds of mash-ups and have done a couple myself. Whenever there's a trailer for a new version of an established property (Superman, Batman, Star Trek, etc) I'm always on the lookout for them on YouTube for them. Makes me curious what a full-on fan edit with Zimmer music would look like. It may sound like blasphemy to suggest replace Williams' music for STM, but it definitely adds a fresh layer to it. I've considered fan editing STM using a Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack at some point, as he was the original choice for composer. Since he has such a vast catalog of film scores to pick and choose from (though I'd try to stay within that same era, late '70s/early '80s) I think it'd make for an interesting experiment. The "Supergirl" soundtrack would obviously be a valuable resource, as well as "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Ilia's theme is an obvious substitute for the love theme, and any V'Ger music has the alien vibe that would be appropriate for Krypton. Of course, that will all have to come after I re-edit BB and TDK with a Danny Elfman score.

I hear you- I was also thrilled when I'd first heard that Goldsmith was the alternative to Williams... it was like "win-win" either way! (Sort of like how I felt when there were only TWO works in competition for "Best movie score" at the Academy Awards in '77- John Williams for CE3K and John Williams for Star Wars) That experiment sounds interesting- definitely put up clips if you end up doing the STM cut! (Though the BB/TDK sound interesting, too!)

Yeah, I've got a few idea for fan edits, I just don't have the time to really delve into them at the moment. But when I do, you guys will be the first to know.
