Thanks Shane.
Bummer it's in Melbourne but it may be worth going down to, at least we have plenty of notice. STM on the big screen is the draw card for me.
Good chance Kidder will be out front having a ciggy beforehand as the rabble files in.

Dammit, dammit, dammit. St Kilda's too far for me to travel. Any idea what will be the quality of the print? Probably as is on the current digital master as Astor's site states the film will be projected digitally.

Any idea what will be the quality of the print? According to their site it is digital projection. They showed Indy, Taxi Driver and a couple of others in 4k digital projection which looked great, so I would assume this is going to be the same or similar. I would say with Margot there they would want a good looking film.

I saw STM twice on the big screen in London in 2008 (remember that, UK folks?); 2 screenings, one on a Mon, one on a Sat. You'd think they would have been identical but one screening had good image with OK sound and the other had great sound with a darker image. Don't know WTF was up with that.

Are you sure that the second time around, you didn't see SR? (The plot is virtually identical to STM, so I can see how you might have been confused.)

Some extra info I've gleaned from the Astor for anyone who may be going to the screening...
The Astor originally wanted to screen the movie from a film print, but the only 35mm print of the film in Australia is no longer useable due to the colour having faded badly, which left the Astor no choice but to go with digital projection.
The digital projection will likely be 2K, and likely of the theatrical cut with the 5.1 Thau mix. (And since the Astor's digital copy will probably be sourced from the current digital master, it's likely the film will be shown with incorrect colour timing due to said timing being inherint in the master. Enjoy the freakin' teal and orange, folks.)
The autograph fee will be $30, and I believe this also entitles you to have a picture taken with Margot with your own camera.

I may go to that screening as I live only a few hours away from Sydney. I see the Orpheum are also screening The Terminator and RoboCop this Sunday. I'm thinking of attending that screening.
