So I watched the Dredd (2012) movie over the weekend and loved it. I was also (one of the only) a fan of the Stallone Dredd movie. So over the weekend after watching Dredd I decided to start reading the IDW series. I've read the first 3. I also plan on tracking down and checking out the original 2000 AD material. I understand that the case files are the way to go for that.
Any Dredd fans here?

I liked the first Stallone Dredd film, but since the story kind of tore down the system a bit, would have preferred that they had chosen a story where we got to see Judge Dredd stay Dredd for the whole (or most) of the film. LOVED the new Dredd film, though--- and that made me more interested enough to buy the 'Brian Bolland Dredd Collection'. In reading the collection, I dug it, but don't know if I want to spend the amount of money it would take to buy all the other collections. Also, in reading the source material, I almost feel like the first "Robocop" feels in spirit like Dredd even more than the two films. The Bolland material is so out there and satirical (with Dredd being the dedicated straight man/officer)--- that- although I really like the new Dredd film- I felt like Verhoeven may be an even better guy to pull off any new Dredd film. I loved the new Dredd film for what it was, (and liked it better than the Stallone one), but in matching the flavor of the comics I read, there are few directors like Verhoeven that I think could do satire well, let alone scifi well.... I don't know if that qualifies me as a pure 'Dredd' fan, but I really dug the last film and do find it sad that there's no sequels (or HBO or scifi series) on the way after watching the second one....

I believe Robocop was conceived as a Judge Dredd film but they didn't have the rights.
I could of course be wrong but it makes sense.
