I bought this poster years ago and kept it rolled up in a tube, forgetting about it. I moved recently, so when going through my stuff I found this and decided to frame and hang it. Here's what I know: The poster was bought online from the Metropolis, Ill., Superman Superstore. Don't remember what I paid, but it wasn't much. I remember that the store's description claimed it is an original poster from 1978. Someone had found a stash in a warehouse and sold them cheap to the folks in Metropolis. It is an odd size, 21 by 29 inches. The closest frame I found was 22 by 34 inches, hence why there's a white border at the top and bottom. The finish is matte on the Reeve portion but metallic on the green background. The back of the poster is metallic like aluminum baking foil. There are markings of TM and copyright DC Comics 1978 and Reflective Arts of Newport, Calif. So, is it legit? Is this from '78? Edit to add: I got a link to this page, but it doesn't tell much. Scroll to the very bottom. Interesting to see other styles for the green metallic poster. www.eatbrie.com/Superheroes.html

Hi, yes it's legit. They're called Mylar posters and there were up to 3 styles in this range from STM in 1978. Yours, one with Reeve flying and Margot Kidder was in there, also a logo poster. I used to have one like yours myself, also framed although sadly it was damaged in a storm.
Enjoy it.

Thanks!
I'm seeing some more around the web now that I know to search for mylar. You can find them for cheap. I didn't pay much for mine. I didn't expect some high-priced collectible piece, but I'm thrilled to know that it's from the year of release.
I've also got poster reprints of S1-4 and SR. Got them free when I mailed in an offer from purchasing the tin box DVD collection from 2006. Full size (US dimensions), but Nothing fancy. S1 is the silver logo with the red/yellow/blue streak. Can't remember what the S2 poster looks like. S3 and S4 look like the old VHS covers with the paintings of Reeve and Pryor, and Reeve tearing the top off of a missle. The SR poster was a random one of all the designs. I wanted the one of Routh floating in space or flying next to the Planet globe. But I got the lousy one of him and the plane wing. He's barely on that design.
Alas, not enough money for frames and not enough wall space.

That one is cool. I've never seen that one before. I got the other two Mylar posters off eBay for like 15 bucks. I want to frame the logo one.. It's pretty sweet.

It is a good looking piece. It was rolled and well cared for, for years before I got it. No a single crease or bent corner. The photo doesn't do justice to how vibrant the colors are. I'll have to get a night shot so the daylight doesn't bleed through the blinds. Anyone care to guess the other poster seen in the reflection?

As far as I know these are the only 3 green mylar posters. As others have mentioned, you can get them for super cheap. I bought all 3 on ebay years ago for about $6 each. For some reason, there isn't much value to them. I guess they were over produced.

Perhaps it's the inherent uncool factor of how things looked in the 70s. No way WB would approve merchandise so corny looking. Cheaply done cutouts on green mylar? I love my poster, but it is rather dorky in a throwback way.
