What stories are your favorite iterations of Brainiac? Comic/Animated Series/whatever.

Panic in the Sky was always one of my favorites. Brought everyone together against Braniac. That was cool.

It's been awhile, but I vaguely remember Brainiac as the humanoid green skin version (in a pink costume of all things- very odd) with Kandor..... and that being my favorite Brainiac story for a long while. Also, when the rumors came much later with the villain from Matrix possibly playing him, the idea of Brainiac as a green skinned humanoid looking robot with those plug things in his head seemed like a very cool idea- But- when Brainiac became the black/white skeleton (for the most part) during the first reboot in the 80's/90's, I thought it very daring-- and kind of dug that version, too- So... It's a bit of a toss-up which Brainiac version I'd prefer- particularly if he's ever going to be used eventually in the movies. CGI robots feel a little played out as villains, actors as even robotic ones (I'm thinking of the Borg Queen) seem to have a lot more impact and presence. *But no matter which version they use, I'm totally fine if they ditch the pink outfit...

Without giving too much away a friend of mine is in a high level creative position on a new official Superman project involving Brainiac and asked me, knowing what a huge fan I am, what the quintessential version is. I told him I always liked the animated series version, in fact, the animated series gets just about everything right; he said he had no idea and will watch it. But if you have any other recommendations for me to pass along to him let me know.

LOL- i hope it wasnt "UNBOUND" ! but the geoff johns "BRAINIAC" six issue arc is superb. it blended all the versions (until SHIT52) as "probes" of the "REAL" brainiac.

Just read Action 242 the other night. The first appearance of Brainiac. Pretty good issue, and the bottled cities and Kandor were there from the start.

Unfortunately, I did not buy it. It's a little rich for my blood. Maybe someday. But, I've been downloading and reading some of the major first appearances of Superman supporting cast (I don't feel bad about downloading issues from that long ago). In addition to Action 242, I just read Action 252, which is the first appearance of Metallo and Supergirl. Excellent issue. A few weeks ago, before MOS came out I also read Adventure Comics 283, the first appearance of General Zod and the Phantom Zone.
(I'm looking up these issues as I make this post)
I still want to read the first Luthor (Action 23), Mxy (Superman 30), first Kryptonite (in comics as it was on the radio show first - Superman 61),Krypto (Adventure comics 210), fortress of solitude (superman 17/Action comics 241), Bizarro (Superboy 68), superman/lex rivalry origin (Adventure comics 271).

I may check out the Johns story. I dug Secret Origin. Got the hardback and LOVED it. I know I get burned out on Reeve/Donner, but Frank's art is so beautiful. He really captured Reeve, as did Johns. I can really see a person in their work, not a caricature. I would love for the MoS sequel to use the Metallo of that story as a basis, but I'd make the character a lot more sympathetic. Have a "Tragedy of John Corben" story, like what was done with Harvey Dent in TDK. Joaquin Phoenix. Someone should make me a producer. I can print money with these ideas, boys.

The DCAU Brainiac is it for me. Perfect interpretation of the character. That's part of the reason "Superman: Unbound" was so underwhelming; Brainiac had alteady been handled so well in the same medium, it was a tough act to follow. Johns arc "Unbound" was based on was good too, definitely the best version of Brainiac in the comics. It's a shame the movie was so mediocre, it didn't do the source material justice.
