Well yeah.
I'm concerned about the prospect of this film, but that's mainly because of Goyer taking it on himself and the fact it'll be a tough one to adapt. But people have seen MOS, they know what Snyder's Superman will be like, they know his style, so if they saw MOS and decided they it wasn't for them then they can take a back seat and stick to the old stuff.
People who enjoyed it can move on with their future projects and look forward to something new.

We're certainly at a pivot point.
Much more so than smallville or SR or even new52.
But if enrique wants to stay in the shire, we'll buy him a pint when we get back.

If Goyer had trouble there how's he going to be able to write a film that lives up to expectations some people have had their whole lives? Then again there will be people who love this flick no matter what. I get that. But a batman and Superman movie should live up to a certain standard because its a special thing. It's not about old stuff for everybody. It's about good stuff. I want new stuff. Just new stuff that I don't think is crappy.

I'm sure people were laughing at STM. Some of it is pretty dated.
"Can you read my mind?", bits of dialogue like, "I like pink very much, Lois." certain special effects shots. All very 70s. But that's STYLE.
But at its core, STM is Superman and it succeeded at that naive, innocent character when the 1970s public was just as depressed as it is now with low employment.
What I'm saying is: I didn't see that character in MOS. Disaster porn all over the place and Superman didn't seem to be batting an eye. That's not Superman. Superman walking around like "sad Keanu Reeves". That's not Superman. Superman snapping Zod's neck. That's not Superman. Wanna break the rules? Build up to it and make it a big deal. Someone unfamiliar with Superman will see that scene and think it's not a big deal, but it should've been a more powerful moment than the movie let on.

MOS isn't even top quality by today's true top standards. Iron Man and Batman Begins both beat its ass into the ground. heckboy had more heart during any ten minute stretch than MOS had. Perlman did more emoting even through a ton of make up. How is that possible?

I'd be more concerned with people who are set up to hate it no matter what because it's a zack Snyder film.
Remember superman killed Zod in SII, Zod had no powers, and he did it with a smirk. Snyder would have been lynched had he done that.
He'd have been lynched for having superman beat up a truck driver out if revenge too!

Even if someone feels he's never done a great film that doesn't mean he can't do one in the future, but when people call him a talentless hack frat boy there's clearly an agenda there that's going to affect their judgement one way or another

I gave him a chance on MOS. I've been giving him chances for almost ten years. I cut him slack early on but he hasn't progressed much. I mean...holy f*** how many chances does the guy get? Do I give him chances forever while he still continues to be a lacking director? By that point his gonna have all my money and he's not going to feel the need to really improve. Then people like me look like a sucker while he's got his millions. There are a bunch of mediocre directors like that making big movies in Hollywood now. Why improve when you can make a crapload of money doing what you're doing? The rest of us out in the normal world only get so many chances before we're out on our ass.

I was actually DEFENDING the guy when he was announced as director!!!!
If you go back far enough on the MOS thread, I think it's in there. In fact, I may be one of the few!
Eeeeverybody was hating on the guy. Shit, I was excited!
I loved Dawn of the Dead and 300. Saw both of them in the theater and had a blast!
Ok, Watchmen was average overall, though it had some great moments, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt because it's supposed to be hard to translate to film or whatever.
Sucker Punch sucked. No misunderstanding there. Horrible. But I still gave him the benefit of the doubt, because...hey, every great director has a bad film once in a while.
Then Man of Steel comes out. Biggest job of his life. I mean, it's ok, it's enjoyable, but it ain't a homerun!
And for this film, I DO NOT give him the benefit of the doubt. For this film, the biggest of his career with talented people behind him, there's NO REASON why this movie should not have been anything short of AWESOME. It should've been at least as good as Iron Man, Batman Begins or X2 or one of those really, really good comic films.

I'm not gonna lie and say I won't see it. I'm just not excited about it. I might not see it in a theater either. I was also curious about Superman Lives even though I wasn't looking forward to it.

Well if I thought someone was a talentless hack frat boy I wouldn't be giving them my money, at best I'd be waiting until it was available to download somewhere, otherwise you're just paying money for the privilege of picking it apart to have something to complain about!
I'd probably go and see just about anything with Superman right enough, but at least I'm in the camp that was satisfied with the last film.

While I'd hate for anyone to get depressed by criticisms and expressions of disappointment, I think the criticisms on the film are valid.
The movie is simply not as good as it could've been.
Problem is some of us are trying to have a little fun with our disappointment and that's pissing off those that really liked the movie.
However, these feelings of fanboy angst are no different or toxic from those expressed in any of the Star Wars threads dating back a decade.
Anyone bitching in here about negative criticisms toward MOS need only go to any 4 or 5 previous SW threads and check their posts there. If you had your fun there, ten you have ZERO right to criticize people here.
Period.

Maybe...just maybe I was yknow hoping someone from WB or Snyder himself might learn from the criticism and up his game. I dont think i ever said Snyder was totally talentless. Hes got an eye for visuals. He's just lacking in other important areas. And like I said i might not see it in a theater. Plus I've watched plenty of shitty movies even if I knew they were shit because there might be SOMETHING in there I enjoy. That's especially nothing new for comic book movies. Even some of the worst ones had something interesting in them. Green Lanterns shit but Mark Strong's a great Sinestro. The material wasn't there for him but he took it upon himself to deliver a solid performance because he felt a sense of obligation. I think finding out the character was modeled on David Niven piqued his interest. Plus he's a pretty good actor. The Lost in Space movie is pretty crappy but I'll never turn down a chance to hear Dick Tufeld as the Robot...or stare at Mimi Rogers and Heather Graham's boobs.
