Now that it's been announced that the next Superman movie will feature Batman, what would've you preferred, a straight sequel to MOS with just superman or what we're getting?

MOS sequel. We need to see Superman AS Superman in his own adventure first. Ideally in a proper follow up to the events of MOS that improves on the original. Cavill needs MORE screen time and most of the focus on his character. He doesn't need to be sharing it with a new Batman that will need to be introduced.

What tallo said.
It's not even close, I wanted a straight up sequel to MOS. I think this Superman/Batman thing will be very difficult to pull off and I'm not overly confident Goyer and Snyder will be able to do it.

Didn't Cavill even say he'd rather have a Superman sequel first before a team up movie or justice League movie? This isn't exactly that but its close. I know he said he thought JL wouldn't be soon.

Now that you mention it I'm sure he did.
I'm at least happy we'll get to see Cavill do it all again as Supes. But Goyer needs to get the finger out, take on board 'some' of the criticism of MOS and be smart about this. But I'd really rather he was paired with someone else.
it is kind of exciting I guess to see what Snyder's Batman will look like.

All ball breaking aside, (about 80% of my posts in this board as of late have been designed to break balls and have some laughs), what I'm about to say is dead serious.
Here I am reading about a Superman-Batman teamup, something that I would've been overjoyed to read about 5 or 6 years ago, and I realize that Superman is over for me.
I literally feel NOTHING.
Not only have the last two Superman films been disappointing to ok, Superman is slowly losing his identity.
And some fans are strengthening Zack Snyder's hand.
I enjoyed MOS fine, but it was a disappointment NOT because it didn't have Reeve but because---like SR---it apologized for who Superman is and tried to appeal to a new generation by making Superman somber. That's compromising the character by making him something he's not. And that was part of what made STM great was that, in spite of the somber 70s, they still made a movie that was unapologetically Superman.
Of course, the technologies and stories ought to reflect the times, but Superman has endured since the 1930s because he has been true to himself all these years, (though his powers and storytelling style have adapted to the times).
When someone comes along with the clarity of vision and the balls to make a Superman movie that's true to the character, wake me up. Until then, whatever.
I can't vote, because I truly don't care what they do.
Prior to MOS, I thought Zack Snyder was an underrated director who has made some entertaining films. After MOS, I've realized that he can still make eye candy, but he's the wrong guy for Superman. So whatever he does with the character, I could give a shit.
It's not about Reeve, Welling or anything that came prior. It's about somebody doing something exciting, fresh but at the same time true to the character.

My heart is pretty fuckin cold to this. Shockingly so. There was a time when i would have been over the moon for a film like this but the circumstances have just killed any enthusiasm I should be having. I'll see it but I'm not counting the days or feeling excited at all.

Yep I am the same. I will probably still see it, but I cant care.
It feels like a gimmick designed to distract us from fundamental incompetence.

It's kinda depressing.
Superman and Spiderman are my two ALL-TIME favorite superheroes and I could give a rat's ass about either of their upcoming films.
I really, really hope Amazing Spiderman 2 flops hard and they get rid of Garfield and whoever the fuck is directing the movies now. I can't even remember the hack's name and I've looked him up twice.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Enrique. I was disappointed with MOS and I don't really care what's next for Superman when he's under the control of Snyder and Goyer. And now that they're throwing Batman into the sequel, I really don't care because I'm just not a fan of the character.

Maybe in the sequel we will find out that Bruce Wayne was also IN the bus and he SAW what Clark did

The ONLY thing they can do to make me raise an eyebrow is to cast Christian Bale.
But even then, Bale and Cavill? Sorry, but Bale's presence would all but guarantee that Superman will be in Batman's shadow because Bale is a stronger screen presence than Cavill.
It would be like casting Robert Downey Jr to team up with Andrew Garfield. Downey's presence would BURY Garfield.
Eh, fucking idiots.

Cavill's Superman needs time to breathe on his own instead of being shoehorned into a Batman/Superman movie.
This has clusterfuck written all over it. Have fun, Goyer.

@ enrique pussy statham lotr sux,
You think fans of wayne boring or bud collyer or george reeves ever felt that way? You grow up on george reeves and the next superman chooses to forsake his calling to go bone lois lane. You think that caused any anxiety?
Man of steel does not "apologise" for superman. It articulates superman in a modern context. I could you you dozens of superman comics from the 60s where he has existensial crisis, or show that in STM and S2 he has doubts and regrets.
But you don't care. You're too busy being more ATP than ATP.
I leave you with this quote from david lee roth (in regard to his contraversial reunion with van halen in 07) "...join us in the future, not the pasture"

I'm just waiting for Marvel to get the rights back. When it comes to marvel movies Sony hasn't had a clue since Spider-Man 2. I'm pretty much in agreement with Enrique. I was disappointed with MOS and I don't really care what's next for Superman when he's under the control of Snyder and Goyer. Ya know even if they just got a different writer or director on one of these it would make a difference for me. Is WB so lazy that Goyers going to write EVERYTHING? Jeez. The idea of David fucking Goyer having total control and plotting the course of a DC FILM universe leaves a pissy taste in my mouth. It's so uninspired. MOS gets s mixed response and WB just gives the guy more control and a plumb job? They could at least bring in a co writer. Snyder Batman? I can only imagine the stupidity and clichés. I don't feel any artistic brains from these two. Its like they are just happy to take the money to be WBs puppets. Would some variety of talent hurt?

He can do whatever he wants now. After working with McG Is there really a good reason to take orders from a frat boy like Snyder?

I don't mind Bale staying away, at least I won't have to suffer his ridiculous voice for another film.

I'm the guy that liked Lois & Clark and Smallville. Reread my post. It has nothing to do with the past. It has to do with how they execute NOW and in the future.

Yeah some people can't grasp that some others issues aren't the ideas but the execution of those ideas. The shitty shitty execution

Who was it on here that went to see STM on the big screen a few years ago?
they said a bunch of guys smirked and sniggered through it like they were above it. That's probably what you'd get in general if you got the older incarnation of Superman. Times change, and they're moving the character a long with it.
These films are being made for the younger generation too, people need to accept that or just forget it and stick to the old stuff.

@enrique
I get you loud and clear.
I just can't fathom why you're so...ATP.
Cavill/snyder superman is awesome. It is epic and spectacular. After all these years... I seriously think you've been replaced with a pod-person. This version of superman is fundamentally the same as any (confused humanoid alien raised by rural conservative then has an epiphany and a costume and fights crime and zod with the world at stake) its just that's a more realistic context than we have ever seen.
You are the one that surprises me the most. I like YOU (and we will sooner or later hang out and have a BLAST!). But man- its like you watched a different movie. The second or third time I saw mos I literally thought "enrique will LOVE this!....and call the haters 'pussy' ". Just...please... leave the ATP schtick to ATP.

That's why Marvel is owning the genre right now.

I had the same conversation with mav about star trek. I'm prepared to just let star trek move on and ill stay in my comfirt zone. Maybe ill get used to abrams trek. I dunno. And while I can understand (though NOT agree) with complaints/criticism/observations that maaaaaaybe there shouldn't have been a single camera, or maaaaaaaybe the flashbacks coulda shoulda been linear- I can accept that that is a point of view with merit- but I whole heartedly believe the execution was superb. I can't wait to see MoS again. Can't wait for the bluray. Hope we get an extended cut. Can't wait for the sequel/spinoffs. Good times.
