As someone had listed their top 10 superhero movies in a recent MOS thread, I thought I'd create a proper thread for everyone to list their top 10, so here's mine...

I would say The Rocketeer counts.
You know what's funny? I loved The Avengers in the theater, but I've still only seen it once. I feel like a movie in the Top 10 has to be something I feel compelled to see over and over.

This is my favorites list, not a "best" list. Although I really enjoyed the new Wolverine, Marvel, Spider-Man, and X-flicks just don't do it for me.
The Dark Knight Man of Steel The Dark Knight Rises Superman Batman Begins Superman Returns Iron Man Superman II Avengers V for Vendetta

STM Spider-2 S2 Avengers Bat-Begins Capn America
No idea after this. I don't do the multiple viewings thing anymore. Wish I had access to all these films 20 years ago
Enjoyed Norton's Hulk, IM1, Spidey 1, The Mask, Xmen
Funny, I've seen Superman III and IV many more times than I'll watch any Marvels or new films put together many times over (unless I win the lottery)

I haven't included Flash Gordon as I don't think he's really a superhero, or is he in the comic book sense?
Anyway, if I did it would be ranked way up there, perhaps just below MOS for me!

Same here. it really was kind of a 'special event' film- In that it was unique in that it was the ultimate 'guest star movie'--- and had to give each character SOMETHING meaty to make their character important in the film--- BUT not TOO meaty as to take away from their own sequels. It's not really a standalone film- but in a way, it is.... anyhow, that's the way it makes more sense to me as to why I also LOVED it in theatre more than once, but don't feel a need to see it repeatedly at home.

Yep saw AVENGERS twice in IMAX 3D and loved it, but feel no desire to see it on the small screen.
I think that's mainly because it really felt like an event movie, a true blockbuster, meant to he shared with loads of cinema goers for a great atmosphere that just doesn't work when sitting at home.

What I think also hurts it a bit for re-viewing is that they deleted a KEY sequence in the beginning w/Captain America--- the movie works without it, but it's far stronger with it in. It is a bit of a bummer than the rumored extended cut never happened.....

Superman the Movie Superman II Batman 89 The Dark Knight The Dark Knight Rises Superman III Iron Man Man of Steel Spiderman II Superman Returns
Avengers gets much high praise but I just don't see why. I probably need to watch it a second time but all I got was a series of endless one liners by a bunch of misfit superheros. Perhaps it was a bit of fresh air to have a lighter superhero movie again.

Can't speak for anyone else, but what I saw from it going in was the difficulty involved in making a story that would give everyone a significant 'scene' * -(*Captain America's was sadly a deleted one, but still there was good stuff between him and Iron Man, I think) solo and with another character, while also having those 'cool' scenes that a young fanboy might dream of (Thor vs. Iron Man/ Thor vs. the Hulk, Black Widow vs. Hawkeye, tons of aliens being beaten up by superheroes, etc.) --- without getting too convoluted but also have enough weight (Coulson's death) .... yet not doing TOO much so that it took away from each of the individual heroes' sequels.
At the end, it might feel lightweight- but I could see the impossible task that it had from a writing point of view...
I think it also gets giant praise from just a logistics and scheduling point of view--- We see crossovers in comics (and sometimes too much), but a crossover in movies to this degree with the same actors playing the same characters?
Never done before in film (at least to this degree and to my knowledge).
The closest thing I think we ever saw in scifi/fantasy/superhero films might have been seeing original Trek stars in spinoff tv shows and in the new Trek movie... and soon X-men actors/characters from a prequel be together with 'present day' actors/characters..
Jason vs. Freddy I don't think counts if there's just an actor in a hockey mask in that case.... (Same with Aliens vs. Predator--- unless you were to have also have had the human characters also be around in each others' films, too)

Avengers by its very nature had a lot stacked against it as a production. If another studio other than Marvel themselves had tried to make it it wouldn't exist as it is. It's a convergence. They are all different. That's what makes it so cool when they put those differences aside and join forces to fight what none of them could take on alone. The film is a great mix of distinct characters and personalities. In some ways its the same reason people wanted to see something like the Expendables for a long time. People can argue the quality of the final product but its easy to see what the initial appeal was.
Marvel had the balls to take the next big step in the genre with Avengers just like STM, Batman, and Spider-Man were huge steps before.

I think Avengers was anchored by RDJ and also there are some sparkling dialogue scenes sprinkled throughout between all the action.
I think its a bullseye and the best of the Marvels so far.

I've still only seen Avengers once. It was really enjoyable, but evidently I'm not in a hurry to watch it again. What Ollie said is correct though, but the appeal of it is the idea of multiple heroes in the one film ofcourse. I still think its funny WB are in a hurry to do JL when that really will be chewed meat by the time they get around to it, especially when you consider the Avengers 2 will be out by that point.
I'd struggle to do a top 10. There's a small number I think have been done really well.
STM Batman Returns Batman Begins Spiderman 2
Those are my favs.
Might be controversial but I reckon the whole train battle with Doc Ock in Spiderman 2 is the best action sequence in any comic book film.

I've seen the Avengers about five or six times now, I think. I watched it twice on bluray, one day after another and never tired of it. I want to watch it with the commentary. I bet it's fun.

Wow, Dick Tracy love! Nice. There aren't many of us that like that one. I do, though. I'm gonna buy it on bluray.

I think Avengers was anchored by RDJ and also there are some sparkling dialogue scenes sprinkled throughout between all the action. I think its a bullseye and the best of the Marvels so far. You mean like "mewling quim?" Yeah Whedon writes some really good dialogue in the film. Especially for Loki. Whedon "got" all the characters voices too. That's not always easy to do. Everybody sounds right and plays right. Avengers knows exactly what it is and what it's going for as a film and achieves it. It may not have always reached for more but at the same time its reach never overextended its grasp. I've seen the Avengers about five or six times now, I think. I watched it twice on bluray, one day after another and never tired of it. I want to watch it with the commentary. I bet it's fun. Sent from my SPH-D710 using proboards Yeah it's really interesting. Whedon talks a lot about the process and why he did what. The dude is smart. Really smart. He's a nerd but in a way that you're glad he's a nerd. He knows his shit when it comes to all this stuff and when he explains why he wrote certain scenes the way he did it makes perfect sense. He totally knew how to "fix" the problems with Banner and the Hulk. Oh and STM gets a shout out from Whedon during the part where Iron Man chases the missile.
