When we watch the flashback of Clark as a child (or when we watch the trailers), we see Clark running in his yard while wearing a cape. Really, it's a makeshift cape in the form of a red blanket tied to his neck.
Who was he pretending to be?

He just knew.... How did Gus Gorman know to rip his shirt open and hum the Superman theme?

Do comic books exist in comic book movies? That's the real question to ask.

There's two explanations,
1) in some silver/bronze age comics kal has perfect photographic memory- he has perfect recall of every moment since he was born and remembers being put in the ship.
This won't work, imo, for MoS because its obvious clark has no knowledge untill he meets Jor.
2) in most eras of superman comics superman is the first public superhero. The literal reason he wears the costume is that siegal/shuster were taking the circus strong-man look and applying it to superman. In context superman was echoing predeccessors like the shadow, flash gordon and so on. In the byrne era, superman was NOT the first hero and pa kent suggests the costume as a nod to the justice society "mystery men".
For MoS, superman is the first hero, but there would be SOME kind of fictional (within the mos fiction) adventure heroes that clark would be enmored with.

ATP hit the nail on the head. Then Snyder hit us all over the head with the Jesus comparisons.
