I'm pretty certain I put it in one of the Batman+Superman/Ben Affleck threads.
Either way, it's a perfect idea if possible.

Shit, I must've accidentally overlooked it.
It's a pretty big deal if true, particularly for this board. Lots of Dalton fans here.

If they're going to replace Michael Caine, they might as well do it with James Bond.

Yeah- its not a new rumor, but it would be cool. I'm for it.
Ebrique- did you ever see "looney tunes back in action" ? Late 90s/early 2000s. Brandon frazier and the looney tunes characters. Dalton has a cameo in a spoof of james bond. Its pretty cool.

Fuck yes, Dalton as Alfred. My favorite Bond and the President of the Time Lords? Who else? I always liked the version of Alfred in which he was a bad ass mercenary.

I heard this rumor a while ago too. Awesome casting if true. It'll serve Alfred's relatively new military/special forces background well. Just for goodness sake have him with a mustache this time. I don't know what's up with these movie Alfreds not having mustaches but it needs to stop. At least Charles Napier had one...

With that hair he'd certainly look better if he were bald...

I noticed it in Hot Fuzz. He was beginning to Picardize.
I would fucking LOVE it if he was Alfred. Ohhh man. That'd be awesome.

He was tr best thing in all those movies.

I've always noticed a similarity between Dalton and Stewart, perhaps both being trained theater actors had something to do with it.
It's nice to see Dalton has opened up to genre roles over the past decade, although I wish he would have embraced that more in the early 90's, maybe he did but perhaps The Rocketeer flopping closed some doors for him. To think of all the roles he could have had during his prime, from what I understand he was offered various roles during his Bond days, but turned them all down to focus on theater work. That was his choice, and one that I suppose made him happy. But he lost a chance to be a leading man and in turn probably one hurt his popularity as Bond as well, from the looks of things by 1992/93 he was only being offered tv roles.
Brosnan took the ball and ran with it as Bond, he went from doing bond-lite tv movies to starring in hollywood films after Goldeneye (Although his turn in Mrs Doubtfire probably opened the door for a potential career in comedies if Bond had not come along), Daniel Craig also really has grabbed ahold of the offers since becoming Bond. But it seems the only films that are big hits for him are the Bond series, his films since Casino Royale have been under performers or films that did good/great but failed compared to production costs.
Dalton as Alfred would be great, but actually I don't know if I would want an Alfred who I think could kick Batman's ass. Dalton looks like he would destroy Affleck. I'd rather Dalton had a meaty Villain role, in either a DC or Marvel film.

I too wish I'd seen more of Dalton over the years, especially in mainstream roles.

He seemed to have taken the "Reeve path" - small roles and stage, instead of commercial projects to help prop up awareness. Be good to see him in bigger films. I am all for him as Alfred.

If Alfred is a more militaristic spy type like in Beware the Batman Dalton would be perfect. Itd be the kind of SMART different casting these films need much like Marvel has done. I'd really love to see him in a Marvel film though. The sky's the limit over there as far as interesting characters.

Aside: I wonder if Michael Caine was pissed at Bale for ruining his chances of collecting another paycheck as Alfred....

Bruce Wayne Targeting me won't get their money back. I knew the mob wouldn't go down without a fight, but this is different. They crossed the line.
Alfred Pennyworth You crossed the line first, sir. You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand.
Bruce Wayne Criminals aren't complicated, Alfred. Just have to figure out what he's after.
Alfred Pennyworth With respect, Master Wayne, perhaps this is a man that you don't fully understand, either. A long time ago, I was in Burma. My friends and I were working for the local government. They were trying to buy the loyalty of tribal leaders by bribing them with precious stones. But their caravans were being raided in a forest north of Rangoon by a bandit. So, we went looking for the stones. But in six months, we never met anybody who traded with him. One day, I saw a child playing with a ruby the size of a tangerine. The bandit had been throwing them away.
Bruce Wayne So why steal them?
Alfred Pennyworth Sorry, Master Wayne, section 26, paragraph 5. Need-to-know. Sure you understand.

I too wish I'd seen more of Dalton over the years, especially in mainstream roles. Isn't that one of your criticisms of Keaton? He wasn't in many big movies, therefore he sucked?

When you're a great Bond, you don't have to do shit.
When you're a shitty Batman, you better do something.

Keaton sucked and his career was a failure and now, for his big comeback, he's going to be in another failure.
Fitting.
