The thing with this forum, is that I think EVERYONE here has been a fan or at the very least (I could be wrong, though) SEEN STM all the way through.
What's easy to forget/overlook is that there's a giant number of current moviegoers who have never seen the Star Wars films, the Indiana Jones films, many of the Star Trek films, etc. etc.- While there's no way for anyone to really know- I was pretty surprised when- in 2006 there were people in the local used dvd stores who had seen Superman Returns and wanted to pick up STM, as they had never seen it, and felt it could be helpful.
I assume (but am not even sure) that all comic fans that go to the local shops have even SEEN the Reeve Superman films.
I think many people know/think of Chris Reeve as Supermam, because the publicity photos from STM are almost always used.... but, I was familiar with James Dean and Marilyn Monroe- though I have yet to see a single Marilyn Monroe film, and only years after seeing Dean's image ever got to seeing one of his films.
With Reeve's public paralysis and also having had Superman movies that lasted 4 films- I think most people know who Reeve is (or are familiar with Reeve's face as Superman in the movies)--- but what percentage of general moviegoers do you think have seen STM all the way through? (Not just counting friends and family) Just curious....

Across the world? I'd say at most half of the movie going public has seen the flick at least once. It's surprising how few "classic" films so many kids under 21 have seen. Was talking to some kids the other day who didn't have a clue who Arnold Schwarzenegger even is. Kinda surprising but then again kind of not.

I have met several people in their 20s who have never heard of Sean Connery.

I've met late teens/early 20s who have not seen SW. So Lucas is perhaps wrong to aim Clone Wars toons at that demographic.
I don't think either MOS or SR would really make newbies want to check out the Reeve films. I could be wrong of course but neither are pop culture classics.

I'd worry more if they've never HEARD of Superman The Movie or Star Wars. It's not a life requirement to have seen the movie. I'm sure people back in the day found it necessary to have seen movies like Easy Rider, Wizard of Oz, Rebel Without a Cause, etc....but there are people even our age who haven't seen them. So yeah...I'd worry more if these titles don't ring any bells.

I could believe that young people wouldn't have seen it yet. I didn't see "Star Wars" until I was 17.
