Now if they went with the best actor no matter what his race that's one thing and I don't mind... but if they specifically want to make Lex black that's BS. Change for the sake of change. Actually worse than that. If the rumors are true WB seems to just be casting actors of certain races or nationalities just to get more wide demographic and intentional market appeal. Not because they are right for the part. That is disgusting.

And then the funny thing is, in WBs effort to be more "racially diverse," it'll probably backfire in that blacks will complain about the villain being black. ::face palm::

Yeah, your dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. If you cast a black actor in a traditionally white role some people will be mad but called racist. If you were to cast Blade with a white dude, you would be racist too. Trying to turn JLA into some sort of unity commentary will probably be handled poorly and take great characters and infuse them with generic racial stereotypes in an effort to be diverse.

There is a lot of racial diversity in comics today when it comes to the heroes and the supporting characters. The problem is most of the mainstream public doesn't know who most of them are so Hollywood would actually have to do the hard work of introducing and familiarizing them to people. They're being lazy and formulaic. By slapping a different race on a familiar character they think they can get the best of both worlds: recognizability and diversity in some marketing scheme to bring in more of an audience. If they want a diverse DC just use existing characters. Put John Stewart or Cyborg in a movie instead of doing a race swap. Blade proved you can take a lesser known character and make a success out of him/her.
Instead of making Perry black (even though I thought Fishburne was ok) put Ron Troupe in good supporting role. He even could have been in Jimmy's spot as the "young guy" at the Planet and they could have brought Jimmy in in a sequel.

It wouldn't bother me too much but there wouldn't be much point. I'd be happier if and when a new Green Lantern comes along they make him black and put Cyborg in the JL like you say.
Perry was fine though so as the race is pretty irrelevant to the character I can't see it being a huge problem. Some people thought Clancy Brown's Luthor was black and they coped.

TAS Luthor was modeled on Telly Savalis. People jumped to conclusions based on his features and that came off more like stereotyping. I never thought he was black. I never got that.

the FIRST time i saw a pic of lex in STAS, i thought "whos the black guy?"
but i get the telly savalis angle. once i realized it was lex i saw him as sort of an olive complexion, like the luthors might have come from the Mediterranean

Let's see ... Affleck in a super hero role, a black bald guy cast in a role traditionally presented as a white bald guy ... DARE DEVIL!

Why? His face? His skin? You assumed. That's more on you than what they intended. I personally never thought he was black.

The Lex in TAS always reminded me of Arnold Vosloo from The Mummy, so I always kind of associated him with being Arab.

"on me?" i "assumed"?no, clark/superman and lois looked categorically Caucasian. whitey white. lex had a darker complexion, and it was a low-def TV in the 90s. he looked somewhat brown when compared to jimmy olsen. the first clip i saw was lex NOT in his 1000 dollar suit, but laying on a slab nekkid getting a massage (from "mercy" i think) i never said they "intended" anything. i dont give a shit what you did think or never thought.

lex in STAS is pretty vain, he probably gets a spray-on tan by mercy twice a week. no bikini lines. he'd never sun bathe, he's too pretty to risk damaging that skin.

It's a pointless change. The PC brigade surely has other more important things to do.

Right. Because each member of each race have the same skin tones no matter what.

My first impression - after seeing lois and jimmyy was "who's the black guy? Followed by "he's light skinned- is it john henry irons?" Followed by "oh its lex". That entire inner monologue was ONE SECOND. So take it easy atticus, maybe a laxative will make you feel better.

Two words: JENNY OLSEN (ugh) Her last name wasn't olsen. Its niether here nor there. I know that it wasn't onscreen..... and there's a window for it NOT to be.... But.... If it turns out in the sequel that it IS Jenny Olsen.... would you feel good about that change? (Though admit I may be cringing too soon, before the facts are all out...)

I definitely hope I'm wrong. Guess I'll have to wait for an interview bit where Snyder or Goyer says that she's NOT Olsen.... but that's why I still feel that she's his replacement in the Snyderverse. Again.... I hope I'm wrong.

The Lex in TAS always reminded me of Arnold Vosloo from The Mummy, so I always kind of associated him with being Arab. I always thought this too as it goes. Anyway, not many well known bald black fellas in Hollywood these days. Wesley Snipes is the only one I can think of
