RIP, heckraiser. Surprised he made it to 81.

He certainly outlasted Burton and Harris and many of his other drinking buddies from that era.

Surprised by this, mainly because I thought he was already dead

Too much of a good thing here.
Perhaps he'll try Venus next.
Yes, I think he might.

I need to see more of his work.
It sucks to lose a legend but some people are acting devastated and upset he's gone, as if he still had tons of huge projects on the plate to do in the coming years. Dude was 81! He's earned death!

Pretty sure he retired last year because Micheal Fassbender was taking all his work, in the style of Peter O'Toole of course.
He was a great actor and LOA is an all around amazing film. But let's not kid around, he was 81 and lead a full and successful life . Evidently he died peacfully in his sleep. When the story of life ends like this, we celebrate not become devastated. Save those feelings for those losses of innocent young children and the like.

I'll be honest, I've always liked his work. But up until recently ( when I watched the amazing LOA remaster) I thought he was dead, I looked him up and was surprised he was still alive, most of the "devasted" people probably thought he was already dead too.
It's been years since he had a high profile role or was in the public eye.

I'm noticing lately a "push back" on this board whenever someone feels sad that a favorite or liked celebrity passed away.
Why is that?

What's a push back?

People expressing something and having it challenged or deflected.

When you're grinding it into her from behind and she pushes back. I think that's a sign that she likes it. Beats me, though, I'm married so I don't get laid anymore.

Too much phoney lamentations. Same as Mandela. When someone reaches a grand old age, its not really sad, they had the privilege to see the journey through.

The next day, golden age actress Joan Fontaine died. Her sister Olivia de Havilland (Gone with the Wind, Robin Hood) is still kicking though!

I was always impressed that she and her sister both had such longevity. Genetics must have played a factor. It was always interesting to me that they didn't like each other and both lived so long to see the feud continue.

Yup. I guess Olivia won.

I've never seen "Supergirl" outside of a few minutes on TV here and there. O'Toole's passing has inspired me finally sit down and watch it proper.
RIP LOA

Not sure where that's coming from. It depends. That thread Pup made about the actor who could've played Bond...well, it was so random to me that I had to be like "who the heck is this?". When Shatner or Connery pass away, no one here is going to be cold about it. I'll guarantee you that. Even though they're old men now, their influences have reached us on levels we may not articulate and we will be bummed about it for a little bit.

But that's because of our profound love of "Finding Forrester" and "TJ Hooker."

Dahahaha!
It is a good point, though. And I'm guilty of it.

Everyone must watch Lawrence of Arabia, not just for Peter O'Toole's brilliant performance but of course for the most amazing cinematography you have ever seen or will ever see!
