Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson held a "#RockChat Q&A" on Twitter on 12/30/1. During that chat, he said that he recently had a meeting with the CEO of Warner Bros regarding working with DC Comics in 2014.
Being cast for MoS 2? Cyborg? Just guessing here...

He's been loosely connected to a Shazam! Movie for years, I wonder if that's finally going forward?
But! But! Shazam! isn't half black, half samoan! But let's face it, with a name like Shazam! he should be black.

No, just no. He overshadows everything he touches. He's stunt casting for just about anything he's in. He's never gotten a successful franchise off the ground, he just latches on to something that's already had a bit of success or name recognition. GI Joe, Fas & Furious. I like The Rock, but I can't stand Dwayne Johnson.

Exactly Brad. He attaches himself to already established franchises. He's never launched anything on his own as far as a series of films. Some of the Rock marks cNt get that in their head as far as his success goes. Even Pain and Gain wasn't sold primarily on him.

As long as he's entertaining the audience, no?

Rocks an effective supporting player who adds to what's already there but he's never been a huge film draw on his own. Some people don't look at the big picture. But then Rocks always hitched his wagon to other people that led the way to get to success.

Mickey Rourke would have made a good Lobo a few years back IMO.
Not seen 'The Rock' in anything

Rock seems like a cool guy.
As for latching onto established franchises? Did he not elevate those franchises after they were already dead ducks? Would you have seen GIJoe 2 were he not in it?

The first GI Joe Was crap but the second one only made more overseas. The first movie made more in the US. First one still made a lot of money to get a sequel. Not exactly a dead duck. The second one made LESS at the domestic box office and was almost as bad as the first. Fast Four was the movie that first got that series back on track and Rock didn't show up until the FIFTH movie. Snitch was all him and that tanked. Faster underperformed. Didn't even make its budget back in the US. It's not a coincidence that he went back WWE to promote his return to action movies after doing a string of shitty comedies. He wanted to tap into an audience to promote those flicks Im a GI Joe fan dude. Rock wasn't the reason I went to see that second flick. The second movie had a better look and style and edge to it and that had nothing to do with the Rock. He wasn't even the best choice for Roadblock. He only got it because he's the bigger star. Terry Crews plays a better "Roadblock" in the Expendables movies

I think The Rock clearly elevates GI Joe 2 and Fast 5-6, personally.
One of the problems I had with the first GI Joe is that there no cool action stars in it. Dennis Quaid was the best they could do?
So it was cool to see more of an 80s action guy feel to GI Joe 2. (Even though Bruce Willis phones it in).

The thing that totally sunk the first movie wasn't so much the stars but the tone and the material. They got it all wrong. Joes been cheesy but it had a cool factor and edge that was totally absent in the first movie. The second one had more of that even though it was stupid. That's what elevated the second film. That went well beyond Rocks presence. Cobra Commander was so much cooler than the emphysema patient in the first movie. All the bad guys were improved. Loved Ray Stevenson as Firefly even though he was clearly aping DeNiros Max Cady. They even improved Snake Eyes part in the second film. Resolute kicks the shit of of Retaliation and it had no Rock in it. It was what a modern version of GI should be while retaining what made GI Joe great in the first place.
Willis basically ODed on NyQuil before filming Retaliation. Quaid was a great Hawk but Willis looked like he couldn't give a fuck as Colton. I roll my eyes when I see Willis in a movie now and that's just sad.

I like Dwayne Johnson, seems like a really cool guy. I'm not as keen on his bent oiled up wrestler alter ego though.

He DOES seem like a good dude. Who knows for real, though. Regardless, I find him entertaining in movies for the most part. It was that one with Stifler that made me realize, "Oh, shit, he IS kinda fun." The Rundown?

Yeah Kev, The Rundown. I like that movie. I like Dwayne in just about everything he does, sans The Toothfairy which I haven't seen and never will. Journey or whatever it was, was pretty fun for a kiddie flick. Whatever/Whoever he's going to be in the DC movie-verse, I think he'll be good. I mean Marvel has Batista, which I'm kinda of surprised about, I'm iffy about him but I'm sure looking forward to GOTG.

Metallo, based on GIJoe 1 who would go see another (apart from fans like yourself)?
The inclusion of Rock and Willis created buzz.
Same for F&F movies.

Again why do you think me being a mega fan meant I had to to see it? Just because those guys hooked some people doesn't mean it was the thing that got people talking as a whole. I would have blown off the second film if it didn't look decent in marketing just like anyone else. People were down on the second film. Especially after Chu got the directing gig. The trailer looked great. THAT got people talking. That's why I went to go see it not because i was some die hard fan that had to. That was the big thing that created the real buzz for the film. Everything was altered or improved. Everyone was talking about how they'd improved on the first. That created more buzz than anything. But they didn't do much to help the final product.
Like I said the second film made LESS in the USA than the first one and that's Including the postponement for 3D To boost some ticket prices. The second film even opened smaller and this is AFTER ticket prices went up and after 3D. If the Rock created more buzz we should have seen it opening weekend but we didn't. Everyone's forgetting those things. And you can't put much of the buzz boost on Willis. Domestically Die Hard 5 even did poorly. Even I'd say Rock did more for the second film than Willis did.
The FF franchise was turning around before Rock got on board. He only added to what was already going on with the improvements to the series.
Who went to go see Snitch and Faster again? Oh yeah. Brads on the mark. The Rock is smart enough to latch on to something already established. He's always had a nose for that.
