I'm curious--obviously this idea has been explored to some extent already, but has there ever been a comic/graphic novel about what would happen if everyone on Earth suddenly woke up with superpowers one day? If there has, what is it? If not...what do you think would transpire? Would society remain largely the same, improve, or worsen?
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but since the topic partially pertains to comics, I felt it was most appropriate here.

Society would immediately worsen. Guns wouldn't be enough to stop crime, guards and walls wouldn't be enough to keep prisoners locked up, and powers would immediately go to peoples' heads. Pure, unadulterated (and awesome) chaos.
Just look at anyone who immediately wins the lottery and see how their lives change for the worst.

What would you do if you suddenly had powers?
I'd probably just do what I'm doing now. Sod all.
Taking over the world sounds like too much energy and I can't be arsed with saving the planet so I think I'd still just sit here watching telly, browsing the net and scratching my balls.

There's a few stories that tell what would happen with large groups. Rising Stars is one that's about a bunch of kids born around the same time in the same area, getting superpowers and what would happen to the world with their influence.
Mark Waid's Justice League: A Midsummers Nightmare had the Justice League Depowered and the rest of the world with Superpowers. Needless to say, gang fights happened with Superpowers, which in the middle of it, Superman's memory is jogged into remembering he has powers.
Also, in the last storyline of Grant Morrison's story World War III, it continued that thought of earthlings needing to be superpowered, and in the end, EVERYONE on the face of the planet has powers and fights to save the earth.

I think if superpowers were given to mankind, they would be given sparsely and to those who deserve it. Those who are inherently good.
And a few of them would probably turn bad, sure, but for the most part, I'd like to hope that if superpowers suddenly were real, they'd belong to people who'd use them for good.
I'd have to do good if I suddenly had superpowers. I couldn't not. I'd feel like that's part of the deal. The world needs help, and it'd be pretty fucking awesome to be the help.

Marvelman. (aka Miracleman)
The Marvelman Family starts a new age by solving all the worlds problems, and even gives people the ability to change their bodies with superhuman bodies. This affects the whole of civilization in many ways. Others object to the change, including Mike Moran's wife, who leaves him because she just wanted a normal life, not a superhuman one with Marvelman.

I'd basically be like Zod, if I had Superpowers. I'd create a single world government all paying tribute to me. Think about it, no more wars, a classless society, order & discipline, there would be only Zo.. uhhh Adam!
But maybe I'd be lazy and just tell the world governments that they could function as normal but I would get unlimited funds to spend on whatever I want.... also laws wouldn't apply to me. Basically I'd be too lazy to create a new order but I'd have an understanding with existing governments that I could do whatever I want... yeah that it.
Hey here's one if you could only have TWO of Superman's pwers what would they be? I'd take flight and invunerability (I'd take that over super strength because I'd be worried about some idiot shooting me as I flew by!)

The world would go to heck for a while. Imagine if Osama Bin Laden or Cesar Chavez or somebody like that had them. They would make some major power plays. heck imagine if somebody like Charles Manson had them? Then of the millions off selfish teens in America that had them and wanted to have fun?
Things would be insane for a while.
