Do you think the release of the Donner Cut was the beginning of the end for this forum?

I think MoS was just the final tipping point. But the life and "raison d'etre" of Supermancinema seemed to start fading after the Donner Cut. That weakening set the scene for the first big split in 2008.

But the life and "raison d'etre" of Supermancinema seemed to start fading after the Donner Cut. That weakening set the scene for the first big split in 2008. Actually, having the Donner cut not live up to expectations actually kept that film sadly MORE alive to me via viewing others' fan cuts to 'fix' it, rather than being something that I felt like could be put to rest by seeing it truly complete (I feel like the IRC in some ways is the superior Donner cut). It was great to see the Donner footage- but such a pity that the powers that be didn't put out a disc with all the stuff in a thorough fashion (extended scenes, etc.) like some more unworthy movies used to put out as extras back when dvds made more bucks. At the same time.... Singer should actually be credited for making the Donner Cut possible via his use of Brando footage and tying it into the DOnnerverse- that awesome awesome box set that subsequently was made available with all that bonus stuff with the other films. (And transferred over to blu ray and is cheap cheap I think now).

These Snyder movies have split all the fans. Just look around. That was the last straw. Some people wanted to love those movies no matter what. Look around different websites. Anytime anyone criticizes these movies (even legitimate ones) Snyder fanboys jump all over them.

I have friends that absolutely love and prefer MOS to the Donner films, but we never throw personal insults or try to build up a case why each other is 'wrong' to love them more. With the internet, I think it's not the movie that split fans. It's the rudeness and inability to discuss things civilly. If it wasn't MOS, then (with something more real), it would be politics, race, or religion that would be kind of the same conversation, I think. Some people can disagree and not feel a need to pummel the other person verbally if they don't ... but, unfortunately, it seems more the rule and not the exception on this behavior on the net. *shrug*

I'm not going to lie. I wish we weren't a broken "community". Some of us, on both sides of the argument, really took things too far. I wish people would just shake hands and get back together.

I just found it funny. People bashed Superman Returns constantly and for years. They bashed III and IV for years. But when MOS was criticized some people couldn't take it. If it's ok for one it's ok for all. I never had a problem with anyone criticizing or making fun of anything but certain people were like "enough already. Shut up" yet the was years of being critical of legoland and Rouths shoulder pads (neither criticism bothered me at all). I think with MOS some people were just all in no matter what.
CAM. I'm not saying the movie chose to do it but the people. It was like the movie was above the same criticism for them that all the other movies were treated to. Personally even though I was one of the people who got blasted I feel a sense of vindication because it's turning out the way I and other people feared. I feel our criticisms were valid especially now. BvS is even more divisive.
For me it was never about preference of one over the other. It was about being fairly critical and open minded all around. Which Enrique called some people on. It got to the point of certain former members trying to turn things into a personal issue when they didn't like what they hard about a movie. Like calling me a homophobe and acting all offended when certain people on their side did the same thing or worse and got a pass. It was ridiculous to take disagreeing on a movie to that level of personal attacks which I never liked. It turned into a good old boys club with a certain small group of guys who had each other's backs regardless of if some where right and wrong while most people (who were neutral) just got tired of the drama from all sides and left.

I remember it getting so ugly that summer on this forum, that I either took off from it for awhile, or was planning to. I don't recall exactly- but the whole reason I've always stayed away from the more 'substantial' topics like politics, religion, race, etc.--- was to avoid the personal battles that would come up on such loaded items. With a superhero movie- I never dreamed it would get so unpleasant.... but, now, that seems to be the norm and not the exception on forums or talkbacks in general. Pity.

I don't see why our criticisms of MoS were brushed aside and invalidated. The fallout from BvS should at least demonstrate that perhaps we did have valid reasons fo criticising MoS.

I think that would require people reacting with reason, not being emotional about it and coloring the behavior. It's not bad for people to feel strong about things in any direction on art, but it's just how they tolerate others' opinions and feelings that they don't agree with. The childishness and rudeness that came out- I would be pleasantly suprised, but highly doubt there will ever be an apology for the attacks and bullying that happened that broke up the forum from different directions. Nobody's perfect, but I do think in hindsight that stronger moderation could have happened- but this is 'backseat driving' as I've never been a moderator for a forum. In any case, I still prefer chatting with folks who don't make things personal or gang up on others, whether it's one voice or a million. It'd be nice to hear some of the voices who left come back, but if not, I'll prefer tumbleweeds to needless rumbles....
