My guess is that Mr. Warfield fired her.
He wanted to cut costs, and the secretarial support such as Lana Lang was the first thing to go.
Also, I think Lacy pushed Mr. Warfield hard to fire Lana because she didn't want any competition at the office for best looking female.
Did Lang get any severance pay?
I don't think so.
Poor Lana had to sell her huge house in Smallville to raise the funds to move to Metropolis and what was leftover she rented a couple of shiitty rooms in a crap-shack apartment in the South Side of Metropolis.
After getting fired, Lana was forced to sell Ricky into child slavery in South America and live the rest of her days on the streets of Metropolis begging for money.
Sad that she probably was reduced to "serving" Brad to just to raise of a couple of dimes.
