Over the years several people compared Brandon Rouths turn as Superman to George Lazenbys turn as Bond in that both were one and done when it came to films in their respective franchises. Both were praised by some and criticized by others. Both had to follow the iconic performer who kicked off the big screen franchise.
If all that’s true what does that make Cavill? Certainly not Moore. Not quite Brosnan either even though there are similarities there too. Much like Dalton Cavills been called bland in the role (I don’t think Dalton was bland). Much like Cavill Dalton had been in some other big budget franchise starters before Superman that didn’t take off. Much like Dalton had with Bond Cavill had been connected to the Superman franchise for years with various other films. For whatever reason it didn’t happen. Dalton supposedly turned EON down while WB and it’s directors never chose Cavill for previous films.
MOS was supposed to be a more serious take after lighter films the same way License to Kill was after the Roger Moore era. Like Dalton Cavill got more than one film but never really got to reach his full potential or show what he was fully capable of and much like Dalton behind the scenes problems seem to have stalled him getting another chance.

I think Dalton was the best Bond by far.
Cavill is like Daniel Craig. Both are good and look the part, but have been let down by crap writers and poor films. Both use shirtless scenes to distract viewers from the fact that the films are crap.
Both characters are trying to copy Nolan's Batman.

I considered that but Craig’s much better as Bond than Cavills been as Superman. Craig got a sequel and four films in total. Cavill never got that. CR was praised. MOS was divisive at best. Skyfall was a massive success. Justice League...to put it lightly...wasn’t. I think Craig has delivered in other roles. Cavill is incredibly bland in just about everything he’s done. He was ok in M:I F but anyone could have played his role.
A more apt comparison would be say...Bales Batman and Craig’s Bond. Gritty post modern realistic reboots that go back to the origins. Skyfall was clearly influenced by Nolan’s trilogy.
I thought Dalton was great as Bond just never given a fair shake. The lawsuits in the early 90s were beyond the films themselves and really cut into his tenure. He was ahead of his time in terms of his performance as Bond. He was doing some of the things Craig is doing just 20 years earlier. I’d never say he and Cavill are on the same level of talent. Dalton’s classically trained. He was never part of the problem but I feel like Cavill is.
