I watched last nights episode about the origin of agent liberty called man of steel. Wow. Supergirl and the regulars were barely even in it but the episode traced the last four seasons of the show and how all the big events and some small one affected one mans life and as well as his family. Liberty was the little guy. The guy in the background we never really see but who has had to deal with the aftermath of aliens actions on earth. It didn’t try to make Liberty and his Xenophobia look justified but it did make it understandable and how he and others got the way they are. Lots of real life real world parallels obviously but I think this was the series best episode by far.

Wow- good to hear that the bar is higher, hopefully it continues (though I wonder about Supergirl moving to Sundays.... not necessarily a good sign for survival). The best episodes of Star Trek to me were when they were able to engage you strongly with the heart and the head. I know I've gone on endlessly about how I wished that the Berliantiverse could go that extra step with either characterization or depth or some kind of social commentary that could make you stop and think about it .... sounds like it has with this episode. Also, I generally feel that (outside of extremes) many people could have a point of view that I might not agree with but could be understandable with enough information- and what better way to get that across than through science fiction or fantasy without going overboard? . I remember Stracinzky did an episode of Babylon 5 where he was directly tackling racism- but it was done in such a one-dimensional fashion, unfortunately it felt like preaching without feeling particularly truthful in its execution. Glad if this story did it well.

I wouldn’t look at the move negatively. If anything it might help. I think that’s why they moved it. Some of the most successful shows ever have aired on Sunday’s. The Simpsons. Walking dead (before it started tanking). It’s not really competing with any regular powerhouse in its timeslot. CW got an extra night to air programming and they had to move something because they have too many shows. The only shows that haven’t moved are The Flash and Black Lightning. I also think they wanted Supergirl to anchor a female heroes night as the lead in to the Charmed reboot. Smallville also moved around during its run didn’t it?
I’d only worry about Supergirls future if they move it to Friday’s. That’s the death slot.

On a side note: mixed on this production company making a Superman tv series with Hoechlin. I do like a lot of what they’ve done with supergirl, but Hoechlin feels very miscast to me.

There are currently no plans for a Superman tv show but if anyone does it that’s currently working on dc stuff it should be Berlantis people. Their take has been a good one even if the execution has been mixed at times. But when they nail it they really nail it. At its best the Arrowverse has produced some of the best episodes of dc tv. At its worst...it still ain’t as bad as the worst of Lois and Clark or Smallville.
To me Hoechlins in the vein of Dean Cain and George Reeves. He’s no more miscast than they were imo. His performance has been the best maybe since Reeve. Certainly the best since Routh. Again just my opinion but they’ve gotten right everything Snyder failed at. My only major issue with Hoechlin himself is he’s a bit too short for Superman but otherwise he’s got a lot of Superman qualities that other guys lacked including Cain Welling and even Routh.

Cain was a great surprise- but the pilot was a great surprise, to be honest. I was prepared to hate it. Everything (except maybe the initial casting of Jimmy) I thought worked in its own way. Hoechlin is directed the right way, but physically he doesn't seem quite right to me. What made it worse was seeing him so much shorter than James Olsen. Ug!

Yeah that’s really my only issue with him. Otherwise I think he’s great. Not just the direction but him. He seems to “get it”’and also delivered with his own natural talents. He was a welcome change after years of Cavill’s wooden performances and gave people who didn’t like that take another option.
Jimmy they just don’t seem to know what to do with. It appears to be even more true after making him Guardian didn’t work out. He’s there as the boss at CatCo but that’s it and even then he’s not as good of a sounding board for Supergirl as even Cat Grant was. Everyone else serves more of a distinct necessary role in the story and Jimmy is just a fifth wheel. Kara’s job at CatCo and CatCo in general have taken a back seat in the last year or so so that makes Jimmy even less relevant.

In looking at the first season, it really looked like they thought of Jimmy as being the main heartthrob.... but when it felt like a misfire- yeah, the backup plan to making him Guardian didn't feel all that great- and I feel like they're just trying their best to keep the actor employed. I get that, but.... I think they should have had some 'parallel universe disaster' thing to rearrange history to make Wynn Jimmy Olsen and the actor who's playing Jimmy play another character in the DC Universe. (Tyroc?)

I like Winn as a character but maybe Jeremy Jordan should have played Jimmy from the very beginning instead. They could have had Jimmy in the Winn role within the shows setup. If they wanted to really keep Mecad Brooks make him Ron Troupe. They’ve made that character more cool in the past while Jimmy always works best as the goofy but lovable screw up.
I think they realized the Kara/Jimmy relashionship didn’t click at all. It felt forced. That’s probably why they dropped it immediately.

I sometimes shake my head at how some tv shows don't realize some concepts are BIG mistakes until after they've already committed to a tv series. Jimmy as love interest and 'cool sexy guy' = just as bad an idea as = Star Trek needing a psychic psychiatrist on the bridge in Next Generation! While Next Gen somehow made Deanna Troi work ANYWAYS.... I remember she was going to be booted off the show after one season, but got a petition going & I think she said at the Vegas convention that Denise Crobsy's leaving allowed her character to stay. Anyhow.... here's hoping the Supergirl tv show goes in the direction more and more of 'Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes'. I'm hoping.
