Here is the link: www.cinemaretro.com/index.php?/archives/9461-CINEMA-RETRO-ISSUE-40-NOW-SHIPPING-WORLDWIDE.htmlSo, I lucked out and found this at Barnes and Noble- saving the shipping/etc.- The issue has about 13 pages devoted to cut-up bits of new interviews with Donner, the producers, and actors from STM. Even though I wished it was more of the issue, it wasn't bad- A good number of 'new' nuggets of information from the interviews: A few nuggets: #1: Spengler saying he and Donner have lunch now and then, and that the arguments were water under the bridge. Hm! #2: Jeff East talking about how strange it was to have LESTER filming him jumping in front of a green screen at that time. Never knew that Lester worked with East at all! #3: Sarah Douglass actually feeling more at ease with Lester's specifics in direction (Other actors didn't care for the 'go to point 'A', say this line, then go to point 'B' via Lester but liked Donner's organic approach more)- over Donner's method, which seemed to make her feel more uncertain. #4: Ilya Salkind sharing that Robert Redford actually wrote a letter explaining that the film just wouldn't work with him as Superman. #5: Margot sharing that she had a public breakdown years ago & that Brando was the first to give her a phone call of support. There's others, I think it was worth the price- even though it's not nearly as extensive as the great "Back Issue" magazine on Superman right now, but still worth it for the new stuff. While it's not the steal Back Issue is, I think the price wasn't too horrible.

I bet it’s at completely different tables at completely different restaurants on completely different dates during completely different times. Haha! I don’t know if it’s old age or not, but it seems that Donner has lived it down over the years. When the Donner cut came out, he didn’t even want to acknowledge Lester’s name. A few recent interviews has had him say it.

It'd be nice to know that Donner and Spengler buried the hatchet.... Perhaps seeing all the love that people have for STM even now- and knowing he and Reeve are credited at the center of it- helps heal..... though, yeah, I still groan to this day thinking of how SII would have been as classic as "Empire Strikes Back" is to the Star Wars fans had Donner been allowed to complete it. To this day I wonder if Lester was just too hungry for a comeback and blinded himself to the idea that he was doing it by being a parasite to Donner's work and was fine taking credit for it (or at least not speaking up to Donner's contribution to SII) ... or if ethically he just didn't give a darn. His silence on not doing a commentary for SII doesn't help his case. I guess people don't HAVE to defend their actions to the public, but at the same time, I think if he chose the Joel Schumacher example of sharing mistakes openly, that it's much easier to forgive and support a particular artist.
