Went to my first "Heroes and Villains' convention and met Routh with my family & we took a photo with him. I probably was the biggest fan of SR over everyone, but also didn't want to say the wrong thing. I think I mentioned just how much I loved his work on SR & how disappointed I was that it didn't get a sequel. (I think this was alright to mention, as photos available to purchase were from SR- not so much Legends, so I realized after maybe it wasn't such a sore spot by this point). Anyhow, he thanked me for that. We paid for a photo , but there was also a line, so we knew we only had a minute or two, but even with that, the guy could not be more gracious and generous. He had a moment introducing himself to my young nephew, and his openness to him made me recall his moments meeting young Jason in SR- just really great to my nephew. After we took the photo and enjoyed the rest of the con, my other family members remarked how great he seemed and I loved that my sister seemed infatuated with him & wanted to see SR (She isn't a big superhero film fan, and often mixes up trivia in memory- she's sure Amy Adams played Lois opposite of him) I think I mentioned on leaving that I thought he was a great successor to Reeve, which maybe was a dumb thing to say- I meant it as a compliment- but I'm not sure how he took it as another person was anxious to be in line next. And- I was an idiot for not getting the SR bts photo book autographed. (Didn't think to prepare ahead ) Oh well, hopefully there'll be another visit by Routh at Heroes next year.

That sounds great CAM. Glad you got to meet him and tell him that because he deserved to hear it. Routh has and still does unfairly get too much crap for SR even though I feel history has been kinder to him and the film. I think more people give him more credit now than they did then. I doubt he minded what you said since he’s always been pretty open when talking about Christopher Reeves portrayal as well as wanting to honor him. If I ever met him I’d tell him he was a great Superman.
I think Adams did try out for either Superman Flyby or Superman returns as she’s mentioned she had gone after the role before so your sister wasnt far off. She would have fit in the movie as well as anyone else at the time.

It was weird to feel like I had all this information on his situation with the SR sequel situation (in that he only found out it wasn't happening on the internet and not a phone call)- and having sympathy for an actor that may not really require it in the first place- (you never know) Also, I've had situations where I've seen other people stumble or fumble with a star in front of a group of people - and a star was sometimes NOT gracious (Hi Nathan Fillon) and I wince for them from afar. So, that leans me usually towards NOT wanting to meet stars per se in things that I enjoy. I know people are only human and there could be all sorts of reasons why an interaction could go bad, but I've heard enough painful 'star meets that go wrong' that I often don't want to ruin my feeling on the actor or this/that movie or tv show I like.

I’ve read Nathan Fillion was an a hole from people who met him. There was also the whole Castle debacle. Not surprised.
I hope Routh gets another chance in the role. Other people from other divisive productions have so it’s not always a question of success but potential. Nows the best chance ever.

Fillon was always funny and entertaining on panels, but it’s hard to wash away a bit of the fan being humiliated in front of everyone (though i’ll Admit the exact circumstances were borderline which I might detail at another time). Nobody’s perfect but actors who attend these shows should be a bit more aware (especially if they’re also asking fans to help spread the word on their project). I echo your hope Routh gets another chance. I do wonder why Berlanti didn’ try (as far as we know)

Because at the time they brought Routh on board Superman was absolutely off limits because the movie division had dibs. The failure of the Snyder version is one reason they’ve loosened up on that along with hopefully loosening up on the character embargoes in general. Tying Supergirl to SR continuity would limit what they could have done. Even if they wanted to use the multiverse as a way to have Routh be his version of Superman from SR they hadn’t really estebleshed the concept enough yet (and even then Superman was still off limits). By the time they could use Superman Routh was already the Atom.
The only reason we’re getting anything Batman related in the Arrowverse is because Gotham is ending and another Batman movie is years away. Even then Batman himself is still off limits.

I hope that they let him return to play Superman in a multiverse crossover ONCE at least so that- if Legends of Tomorrow ever gets cancelled, that there's a way for him to return and/or be a regular on one of the other Berlianti shows.

Well even if Legends is cancelled they could move Routh over to another show. They’ve moved actors before. There’s also the crossover nature of the shows to consider. Constantine got cancelled three or four years ago and yet they’ve continued to use Matt Ryan as the character. The same could happen with Atom.
As far as a regular or recurring the Superman gig is Hoechlins as long as he wants it and does his job without problems. But I do think there’s a chance we could see Routh as Superman again in the future if certain things can be worked out.

I was fine with Christopher Gerard, Dean Cain, and Tom Welling as Superboy/ Superman.... It is subjective, but Hoechlin is the first actor who really feels wrong to me physically for Superman and Clark- and not really feeling like great casting with this Lois, too.... pity.

You haven’t really seen it yet so it’s a bit early to say she’s wrong. Tullock certainly looks the part. I’ve never watched Grimm but I’ve ve heard people say she’s good in it. As far as Hoechlin to each his own but to me he looks the part the way some artists draw him but the hairstyle makes a big difference. As soon as I saw him I thought he looked like Mark Pajarillos Superman or even Frank Quitelys Superman. Only issue I have with him is he’s a little short for the role and he could stand to bulk up but he is in good shape. To me Cain looks the part far less besides being broader but everything from his eyes and jawline are wrong. Welling has the size but he has kind of an odd shaped face but looked better as he got older. Never really had a problem with Newton or Christopher since they were very much in that Christopher Reeve vein. The thing about Hoechlin is hes not in that Reeve mold and more along the lines of a George Reeves or even Dean Cain. But in some shots he still really looks like Superman like here. Those cape clasps have gotta go though...and give him red versions of the black suits boots. I actually think the black suit looks better than his blue and red one. I normally hate the high collar but it works on this one. Not sure if it’s because of the color or the way the cape attaches.
