Seeing the original Flash in costume in this made me a little greedy to see Dean Cain as well in his old uniform.... (maybe. a sequel down the line?). Or Christopher Gerard back in costume as an alternative Superman?

I was thinking the same. As cool as Hoechlin looks in that black costume I would have loved Gerard Christopher as Superboy Prime. Would have lined up more with the comics too. The Sovereign would have been great too but I imagine rights issues with CBS corporation could pop up. Even though WB has released the superboy show on dvd I have no idea if they can use those trademarked designs and ideas in a new show. I’d love to see them bring Cain and Hatcher back as Clark and Lois and adapt some of the recent Lois and Clark comic where they’re parents. Heck let Cain wear the beard for a bit. I was also thinking how great it would be if they adapted the recent dead earth short story with an older Supergirl and brought Helen slater back to play the role again. It wouldn’t necessarily have to be the same supergirl as the 84 movie version but maybe one from an alternate Earth. They’re obviously building to COIE in the next few years but this opens up a lot of possibilities. That’s a Smallville Green Arrow costume on that battlefield and while I think it was the Green Arrow of earth 90 and not the actual Smallville version of the character it does bring us one step closer to canonizing Smallville as part of the Arrowverse by giving those characters doppelgängers in the multiverse. They’ve already made the 1990 Flash and 2014 Constantine cannon so it’s not unheard of. I would have gone all in and gotten some cheaper replicas and anything WB had in storage in LA for that battlefield scene. A replica Reeve cape, a Batman movie cowl, etc. they’ve got Banes TDKR mask in Arkham in the crossover so they aren’t against doing this kind of thing.

It would be great to see Hartley back as the Smallville Green Arrow but perhaps scheduling is too difficult with him on NBC’s ‘This is us’ at the same time. But.... would be great to see the other actors (Helen still looks great and could be the older Supergirl from 1984) who aren’t as busy appear.

They’d have to work around his schedule assuming he’d even want to do it. The most he could probably swing now is some kind of cameo instead of a substantial story. This Is Us has really blown up. I think if he could Hartley would want to do movies much the same way Sterling K Brown has. Browns made the time to do that I’m assuming during the shows hiatus.

Thought of an even better idea for a guest star/ casting: Rosenbaum as a grown up Lex Luthor.... actually would have been smarter for Supergirl's casting director to have offered this to Rosenbaum or..... Brent Spiner maybe?

Rosenbaum refused to play Lex on the show. Possibly any version of Lex. Said he has no interest in playing him as a recurring character on tv again. He might be willing to play something else.
Brent Spiner WAS cast as the Vice President on Supergirl but backed out at the last minute. I’ll also say I thought Spiners Joker on young justice was awful.
It’s not like these people aren’t thinking what we’re thinking of but that doesn’t mean the actors are interested. If they do bring these actors back as a character I think it should be the version they played before. With the whole multiverse concept it makes it doable.
But again I’d prefer the creators of the show get to cast who they want to for THEIR version of the character instead of using someone who already played the role. In some people’s mind casting Rosenbaum would tie the show to Smallvilles continuity even if it’s not and the producers would want to avoid that confusion.
It’s the same reason the producers of Lois & Clark supposedly told Gerard Christopher they didn’t want him as Superman after they found out he’d played superboy.

I wonder what made Spiner back out at the last minute? With Rosenbaum refusing to play Lex now years later.... I wonder why? Did he give any reason? On the flip side- didn't Sean Connery say he'd never play Bond again, then later ended up doing Bond again? If anything, I think with the time that's passed, Rosenbaum was awesome as Lex when he was younger- I can only imagine him being even better as an older Lex. It's STILL a bummer (to me) that Gerard Christopher only got bumped because he played Superboy before- but then again, I thought Dean Cain was great as a different kind of Superman. Would be nice if the producers mentioned who they went after- would make my life easier.

Spiner said a family issue came up. Maybe he didn’t want to travel to Vancouver because of that. That’s probably true since he’s got a young son but for all we know he wanted to avoid the shows political commentary. It’s a little more direct than what tng did not to mention it’s set in the here and now despite also using the alien allegory. Not to mention society is even more divided and combative than it was when TNG went off the air in 94. The internet was in its infancy and there was no social media. Even then Berman was afraid to touch certain subjects like anything LGBTQ.
They got Bruce Boxleitner to replace Spiner which IMO is FAR more fitting if you know anything about Babylon 5. Now he’s on the other side of a story B5 did which makes it more fascinating and meaningful imo.
Roseunbaum has no interest working a tv schedule or specifically I don’t think he likes being pigeonholed in that role for tv anymore. I think he wants to break way from that. A movie would probably be different because that would help his movie career. After years on smallville it’s not like he’s done a lot. I can see why he’d wouldn’t want to go back doing the same thing that got him where he is now. Same reason Welling has no interest in playing Superman on Supergirl. He said he’d be up for guesting on the Flash but he didn’t say as Superman. I’m assuming if he did do it it would be the whole multiverse deal that way he could pop in for one episode and it have to make any kind of long term commitment.

Mild spoilers!
Well...that was pretty enjoyable. I wish it had been longer. I know it would have been a logistical nightmare but legends providing an extra episode really could have given them more time to get into things. They still managed to massively expand the creative world of the Arrowverse and dropped some massive geek bomb revelations. The Easter eggs and references were pretty heavy too.
All the actors really impressed me. Hoechlin was not only good as the real Superman but great as the black suited Superman. Tulloch has a strong debut as Lois. Didn’t see her as much as I expected but she made an impact (literally in one case). I also liked the guy who played the Monitor. Wasn’t expecting him to be as good as he was but I can see why they cast him. There was a great mix of drama and comedy. They took characters to locations I never thought I’d see. From the fortress to Gotham. The fact that they shot some of the Gotham stuff in Chicago really impressed me so they definitely upped the budget in that area.
I think I may have liked Crisis on Earth X a bit more but I’m gonna need a few rewatches to decide for sure.

Pretty cool. Too bad they deleted this. Maybe we’ll finally see Superman and Barry race in the Arrowverse.
