They have molds of Reeve's face so they can bring him back via CGI just like they did a few years ago with Peter Cushing.
Time to do the Donner cut properly.
Thoughts?

There is no vague sequel coming out to promote it. They had their shot then and Donner thinks that was good enough. Right now all we need is a Blu-ray of the International Cut and have someone do a really good fan edit. Booshman had a lot of traction on his cut, but it’s been years since we’ve seen anything new. I hope something new can come out in time for the movie’s 40th anniversary next year.

I'm HOPING that they release a restored letterbox blu ray like STM- but with STM tv cut coming out of nowhere, who knows when or if that'll happen. I don't know how interested Donner is/was in going back to SII with the lack of footage and his newer mindset to go 'faster faster'. Still heartbroken over how the Donner cut was so sloppy.

Only if CGI villains rule the world. Please try to do it.

Only if CGI villains rule the world. Please try to do it. If they had access to all the green screen shots of the villains, then they could have done something like that back with the RDC with licensing stock footage - unless there were just contractual rules that made it impossible (i.e. union fees?) The thing is: Donner doesn't seem all that interested in pushing for fixing the movie with the scraps available. Without it.... hard to see any movement on it. As is, I'm suprised/thrilled that they did the tv cut...

I doubt I'll make the anniversary, but it's still coming. The latest clip was last March, so a while ago, but not years. I have a little girl now so my time is much less than it's ever been. It doesn't help that my plan for the movie has expanded a lot, meaning more editing, more effects and a particularly complicated bluray. If you haven't seen the outline on fe.org, it's basically a choose your own adventure style movie experience, which I've never seen done before. You can appreciate though, as a workload for one person, it's a lot. Latest video Scene outline

(And congrats again on the little girl!- Enjoy the time, it goes by f-a-s-t! when they're little!.) And, that new clip is awesome! I know I've seen your plan before - though in looking at it again, just looking at the complexity and imagining the level of work that has to be involved makes my head spin.... I'm still crossing my fingers daily that WB comes out of nowhere (like last time) and announces the release of the tv cut in blu and wide so that there's more to work with.... and/or just so I can enjoy even the tv version in hiq and letterbox.

What about the option that uses Selutron's ending? It was SOOO good.... basically the world turns backward again.... ONLY THIS TIME JOR-EL DOES IT! Wow my mind was sooooooo blown over the use of a recycled ending retrofitted to appear new even if it's just the same garbage from before. Oh and in case you can't tell I'm being sarcastic.

I don't necessarily agree with all of Selutron's choices, but he opened up a lot of ideas for recutting or adding something new to the Donner cut. I think anyone who does that on his/her own time gets a pass in my book...
Having said that, I'm also not crazy about the Selutron ending choice--- but I don't necessarily have a much better one based on the lack of footage.

Thanks for the best wishes CAM, yeah she's getting bigger so quickly, the last year and a half have flown by.
Crown, I got your sarcasm, I'm English so no worries there. I wasn't a fan of the ending either. I think I only watched it the once, so my memory isn't great on the details, but I remember it being less appealing than his new intro.

Oh yeah I was a big fan of Selutron's into.... a 40 minute visual essay on the ramifications of time travel and how a single twist in the fabric of time can swap the effects of two dic-shaped missiles which (if it wasn't already confusing before) is infinitely MORE awesomely head scratching now when attempting to explain via spliced Superman 4 footage edited so well it would make Michale Thau blush.
Good thing the intro has a lot of grey haired roided Supes flying around constantly which lasts almost half as long as the entirety of Superman 4.. we won't see Supes again until another 100 minutes into the film to fight Zod with laughable slapsticks gags galore which are so great and funny.

As an aside... Booshman- I know I've probably said this before, but it's been awhile- I took the opportunity to view again the prototype/test on your vimeo channel for the repowered Clark/Superman... Man, it's PHENOMENAL. Those clips you chose for test 15 are fantastic & the arrangement is great!
I think my initial resistance to it is that It does change the nature of what the script was supposed to convey at the end of the scene with Clark on the floor (a sense of hopelessness and mystery before his return -in the script- versus exhiliaration & excitement in your version- 'is he going to show up on time to save the day?')... but the idea and energy conveyed is so fresh that I'm thinking that in mulling and over that maybe having that scene does add versus subtract from the power of Superman returning on the flagpole as the 'return moment'.
Glad to hear that it's moving along still- but I tip my hat just thinking off all the extra work for even that scene alone... let alone a 'branching' option for the final project.
It's a pity that WB doesn't write you a check for that- because that would be such a dream for so many Superman fans.

Each 2-3 second clip of rotoscoping I estimate can take hours of tedium. I dig seeing new rotoscopes with the Reeve Supes in any context, knowing the effort involved with it. I'll always applaud that...

Yes, those shots were a pain in the behind. For example, there is shot lasting a second or so of Superman, stood still after getting up off the floor, its from a distance away from him and you can see a lot of the fortress around him. For that one shot I had to cut out Superman from a scene, rotoscope his movement, time reverse the footage and flip the image. I took a background from another scene but the villains were in it, so I had to Photoshop them out. I didn't like that Superman was over to the side of the shot, where he really should have been central, but moving the whole frame over, I created a large black background for a third of the shot, which I then had to fill in with various images of the fortress to fill in the space. Then I added a shadow for Superman and since the shot was flipped had to track and replace the S on his chest so it's the right way around.

Thanks for the 'behind the scenes' on this shot.

It'd be NICE if WB actually wanted to fund doing the missing Donner scenes in CGI, but I doubt that they would even fund a poor version of it in CGI, let alone a high-quality version which could be in the millions to do it right. So--- as it is, I'm just appreciative with any restored frame we get of Donner/Reeve footage as is, now. It's possible that knowing how difficult it is to do rotoscoping is needed to appreciate (and enjoy) what's there....

Anyone up for Zac Snyder recutting and finishing SII off as originally intended with all the budget and CG tools at his disposal...come on you know you want him to

I think the whole thing is: if the RDC had made better choices in editing then there wouldn't be much debate. It's just so extremely cut up that while I appreciate the missing Donner footage, for the most part, it's just not cut properly and that makes all the difference in the world.
