Clark lost his powers... but he was still 6 foot 4 and 225 pounds.
Why was he such a weakling who could be beaten like a rag-doll by a man 1/2 his size?

Rocky gave him a cheap shot punch in the back that sent him crashing into glass. Clark has also never experienced pain like that before and wasn’t expecting it to be that. Due to that scene being filmed when Reeve was still bulking up, it was conceivable that his mass of 225 pounds diminished when he was depowered.

I did think it a little odd that they didn't cast someone huger (and in the original script there were a couple of guys) and/or how stagey the 'fight' was, but the expressions on Reeve and Kidder (as well as the cutaways to the reactions of the other patrons in the diner) really make it work emotionally. Plus, I figure that Donner was careful not to make the scene TOO disturbing.

What if Rocky had pushed LOIS through the glass door instead?
Naturally Clark would have been upset.. could he have taken Rocky out in a mano a mano?

If Lester directed the scene, pretty sure that Rocky and Clark would have been in a food fight. In old storyboards (if I find them, I'll scan and upload)- the Metro battle was even MORE farcical. Zod had punched Superman into a van full of flowers. It was boarded- and I wonder if Reeve or the producers nixed it. Not kidding.
