Right away I'm thinking: I freaking LOVE what they did/ are doing.
Also, if I watched it via streaming the next day for convenience, I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's more convenient.
So- Apparently the ratings were down from the last multiverse event.... but I'm not suprised if streaming had an effect and if there usually being not much consequence to these multiverse crossovers have an effect as well on interest.
I hope that they get rewarded and that there's a giant noise because of the extra effort all over the place for these-
But-
I am suprised at the reactions. In some cases, while I still love what they did, I can (in some cases) see where the other fans are coming from.
From my point of view, after reading how- for years- it was a nightmare to even get WB to give permission to use (and they never could) a youjng Batman on Smallivlle- and how they had to fight to get even a Superman appearance on Supergirl, and even in season two, how that was limited- this Crisis was a giant buffet of creative riches imo.
Complaint #1:
Smallville's Clark giving up his powers.
First off- For fans of Smallville- it could always be felt that it wasn't THEIR Smallville but a variation if they chose to.
But- one argument was that for all the people who 'died' on the show to make Clark Superman, that his giving the powers up was a slap in the face.
I can kind of see that- but on the other hand.... it's fresh and was a real character bit- and gave a great contrast to the other versions of Superman - we got the best looking Superman costume with Routh's and so it was neat to see the 'alternate' version where he followed the Alan Moore route (as Metallo brought up).
Of course, it would have been GREAT to have seen him make the fans happy by putting on the damn costume for five seconds, but I was happy with this.... and Routh in suit looked phenomenal.
Complaint #2:
Conroy Batman being evil and Batwoman being the chosen one.
I tnought the twist was fine- my only quibble was that the battle with Kara was too short to have maximum impact. Batman was defeated a little too easily for my tastes, but it's nit-picking.
I could see how fans of Batman got irritated that Batwoman was the chosen one over Batman- but, again, being aware of how many needs have to be bent for the main actors and series, it was just neat to see Conroy play Batman at all... and neat nods to Kingdom come (and, again, nice contrast story-wise to the other 'alternative' Supermen).
The main reason the complaints and ratings bother me is that it takes away from the extra hype that could have been garnered for Routh Supes to get a return. But, as far as I know, there's been no complaints with his return.
In any case, it sounds selfish, but I'M freaking loving it. That's what counts.
