I did read the Kevin Smith script all the way through--- it had it's moments, but nothing spectacular.
Never saw the JJ script (though a bit curious).
The 'New Superman movie'/Superman V I haven't gone through yet (I think it's linkable somewhere) as well as the Ilya Salkind Superman 3 script with Brainiac...
Did anyone else read these?
If so, what did you think?

I read one of Kevin Smiths Superman Lives drafts years ago. Thought it was pretty cornball. Peters recommendations were awful and Smith needed to take some of his usual style of dialogue out of it. Read the Andrew Kevin Walker Batman vs Superman script. Was ok but needed a lot to work. It was still pretty formulaic and predictable but could have been something good. www.dailyscript.com/scripts/asylum.pdfNever read the Bates/Superman V script. I’d love to read the original Superman III treatment just to see how bad it is. Read some of the Flyby script. Never did finish it but it’s pretty meh. JJ has no originality. If you want to read it here it is right here. www.dailyscript.com/scripts/Superman(JJAbrams).pdfThe funny thing is since WB paid for all these they’ve pushed to use bits of the then and other filmmakers like Singer and Snyder clearly took elements of them for their films.

Out of all the drafts, scripts, etc.- the one I'd REALLY hunger for would be the 'real' inside info on what the two Superman Returns screenwriters had planned for SR 2- and how they would have resolved the Richard White/Supes/Lois Lane situation. It's still too hard to believe that they would have killed off the kid for SR 2- seems way too harsh.... and resovling the bit without making it seem too much like a soap opera I think would have been a challenge. (Wonder if Brandon had any inside info on it from Singer for what he intended for part two before the sequel went into limbo?)

Routh probably knew as much as we all do now. They seemed to have ideas Maybe even a treatment/outline but I’ve never heard of a full script. It’s a tough nut to crack since SR left them in a very specific and limited space to go forward. Of course COIE shows they could do something interesting.

Smith has REALLY embellished about his involvement with Superman. The “no suit and no flying” mandates from Peters were specifically aimed at how he was portrayed in the Reeve films. They didn’t want him in spandex and they wanted to present a more realistic sense of flight than the “Zoptic” method. Both of these were applied eventually for Man of Steel.
There is a script for the Superman Returns sequel that Robert Meyer Burnett wrote based off what he and Singer discussed together. Salkind’s treatment for Superman III was really off the wall that included a joust between Superman and Brainiac that occurred in medieval times, but the idea of having a cosmic-bound story is a lot more interesting than what they came up with, which no doubt was considering the escalating budget for a film of this scope.

I only found the 'scriptment' theories for the Superman Returns sequel, that had Jason turned into an adult & then (I assume) killed off by Supes, but that just sounded WAYYY too out there and even more brutal than "The Dark Knight" (Maybe it was their intent- but if so.... yikes. I don't know how you find hope after something like that in a fantasy film) If you have a link, I was searching for a SR sequel script forever & a day... please sir? I do wonder why 'cosmic' would have cost a giant amount, though, if Lucas was able to use the existing fx of the time to do the original Star Wars... as long as the budget wasn't super-low for the original Superman 3 (Possible, as it looked much cheaper imo than STM or SII)- I can't figure out why they would feel the fx budget wouldn't be able to handle it... But, thanks for sharing on the scripts!

Smith is a storyteller and he likes to tell a good story. He’s never been known for accuracy. Peters did get his giant spider. And it was ridiculous. Even he admitted his take was wrong. Of course he was getting paid when saying that but still. So is there an actual officially solicited full length script or just some kind of outline from RMB? He’s on twitter and has his own YouTube show so it wouldn’t be hard to find out. I know he’s written a lot of stuff just for fun that wasn’t solicited but how in depth it is is questionable.

Any real answers to what Singer had in mind for SR 2 would have loved. I have a hunch part of the rumored synopsis sounds right (Brainiac posing as a Kryptonian)- but it's hard to fathom the second half with the kid being killed.... it'd be too much imo.

So is this something he did on his own time after talking to Singer or did they sit down with WB and get the go ahead?

Roughread the Burnett script.... there are parts to the Richard White/Lois Lane/Superman triangle that I think are well done- and I see some of the ideas mentioned in the questionable synopsis- so it looks like it's worth the effort to go through... but... at the same time some of the more interesting aspects of the synopsis don't seem to be included in the script.
Pity that there's no recording or transcript of what Singer had in mind for sure. I still would like to know, but this gives a better clue on what might have been....
