To me, the BEST version of Three Musketeers- Produced by the Salkinds, directed by Richard Lester! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssLVKLJ8ojUThe sequel (shot at the same time) Four Musketeers unfortunately felt a bit scattered- but still worth watching for the awesome cast- www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0L-bhQqwgUAnd- I didn't see this one, but was a bit curious as i didn't even realize it came out- www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QBKBEKMzAwIn any case- When I first heard Lester was going to finish directing SII- I thought it might not have been a bad choice per se, as I had seen the excellent Three Musketeers prior, but... oh well. I can get based on Three Musketeers why some might have had unflinching confidence in him finishing SII, but...

Excluding his Beatles documentaries my favorite non Superman Lester film is probably Robin and Marian. Great cast and it has a surprising seriousness and depth to it.

I made the mistake of watching "Spinal Tap" before watching "Hard Day's Night"--- so I ended up getting a bit bored halfway through Hard Days--- even though I know how significant and different the Beatles movie was supposed to have been for its time. Good to hear on Robin and Marian..... I am now more curious about it--- plus, Sean Connery! So there's that...

Not necessarily the best Robin Hood movie but an underrated and kind of forgotten one. I enjoyed seeing a somewhat different take on the usual story.

Bizzarely, I viewed the condemned Kevin Costner one not too long ago---- and suprisingly thought it not bad for a bizzaro version of the tale. Still waiting for "THE" robin hood movie... Imo- Lester's Three Musketeers is the definitive cinematic version.... I think I might not have seen enough Robin Hood films to decided which is 'the' one I want to cement as the perfect one...

I liked the Costner movie a lot. It’s a fun popcorn movie despite its flaws and still arguably the best Robin Hood movie of the last 50 years. Alan Rickman alone makes it worth it. Like you said though I also have yet to see THE Robin Hood movie... at least for the modern era. The 1938 Errol Flynn movie still sets the standard and has yet to be beat.

I think I saw the director's cut awhile ago--- but uncertain what exactly the changes were. I thought Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio also was great as Marion. Awhile back, I seem to remember there being one with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett that was apparently directed by Ridley Scott--- but I really can't remember shite from it! That's not a good thing...
