There is a good movie in SIV somewhere. ;D No. No there is not. ;D Having poured over every scene numerous times, no, it's a complete disaster- producing, screenwriting, direction, acting, and above all, the editing. Even if it had the budget of STM and had nothing cut out, it's still a terrible, preachy story with only artificial drama.

But after watching 3 different fan edits of it, as well as kicking around my own ideas I realized the truth. I have a movie quote that I use for certain fan edits that fail to find the "diamond on the rough" for a movie that they'd like to make better. You can't polish a turd.

Just got around to watching this. Great work, Jimbo.
I've seen the deleted scenes on the DVD prior to this but watching them back in the film makes them appear more, I dunno, watchable.
The ending is perfect, I just wish we had a fully restored version.

I agree- Jimbo did a great job on it- Seeing the whole story (or most of it) in one piece definitely at least gives a SENSE of what they were going for- even if the director made some pretty bad choices, Reeve/Hackman is what makes the movie bearable.
I always argue that I prefer even a bad Reeve Superman movie to (what would have been) NO additional Reeve Superman film past SIII, if SIV never happened.

As a side note; I LOVE Jimbo's title for this cut. Hilarious. I just wish I wasn't so lazy, or I'd do a 3-d effect for it with sound fx in 5.1 & send it to him for inclusion.

Saw this a week or so ago Jimbo - I enjoyed it, gives the film the sort of length the other movies enjoyed, aside from NM1's tin pot covering his tackle, which is beyond ridiculous, I like a lot of the deleted footage. Still yearn for the Metro Club scenes and will never know why Clark at his parents grave was removed.
The whole thing with Lacy and NM2 still confuses me, so Superman rescued her from Lex's lair, used her to divert NM2/'The Missile' - saved her....then dumped her back at Lex's lair alone, to be abducted a second time? Even in the original script that seems to be the case.

Agreed. Supposedly there are even more bits that weren't in the original script that floated around:
#1: Lacey and Lois go out for coffee (don't need to see that though) #2: A part where Superman/Clark whisks in a couple who were denied entrance to the Metro club (I believe this was from the screenwriter commentary on the dvd) #3: The photo of Supes lifting a garbage bin (?) during the Metro club fight....suggests something.
In any case, Reeve's comedic timing was brilliant, I would have also loved to have seen how that Metro club scene would have played out.

When the announcement was made that the deleted footage had been discovered, it was that 'all the footage has been discovered and 30 minutes has been used on the DVD' that denotes that they have the rest but aren't using it for whatever reason.
Rosenthal stated that Clark whisking the couple in was definitely FILMED. There's no reason that it wouldn't be part of the workprint, if all the NM2 stuff is there with incomplete effects, then why nothing from the metro club!!
The no borders scene...
Christ alive.

I was disappointed at the quality of the deleted footage particularly the incomplete effects for footage we know exists in a completed form. Why did they have to release the US cut? I grew up watching SIV with the tornado scene and the Red Square scene included, just feels odd now they are missing.

About why they didn't use the Metro club stuff...
I think it was speculated here (I forgot who mentioned it) that perhaps the music rights weren't cleared yet for the Metro dance club footage (assuming that they didn't have the originals anymore and only a rough cut with the music smushed into the soundtrack)... sounds about right--- but would have liked to have seen it in ANY form if were available, even if it were silent!

Sadly, with the death of Megaupload, this cut is no longer available online. It had been up for over 3 years.

Jimbo - is the music used in your 'metro club' picture crawl the music that was supposed to be used?
Bloody music copyright! Ruins the release of so many things
Is their anyone from the crew that we could ask about this, one of them might on facebook or something

Jimbo - is the music used in your 'metro club' picture crawl the music that was supposed to be used? I just handpicked one of the songs from the S4 soundtrack that I felt sounded the best. I assume the actual club scene used most of them, but I just used the one.

Hey Jimbo,
I was wondering if you had any plans to re-upload it. I, and I'm sure others, would love to see it.

A little off-topic, but if a studio insider was able to sneak off Wolverine:Origins years ago and put it on the net, it's a pity that there's no one that can get that missing 'disco' scene from SIV and put it out there on the net, too. At least the story (love or hate) would at least be somewhat complete. It seems like THE missing piece. Would also be nice, though to see that scene of Supes by his parents' graves... (Did it get moved to the Kent farm, if I saw the pictures of that scene correctly? If so--- does that mean that Lacey at the end has to have Clark's parents' grave on her farm every day after the end of the story?)

Apparently the music rights over the Metro club scenes has been cleared up, there's no reason why they can't show up in the next release!
...thats IF there is a next release, all we can hope for is that BVS causes a re-release of all the past movies. Plus the fact that optical media is simply dying out, I'm not convinced we'll ever see these.

The Metro Club scenes from the workprint could have utilized music that wasn't owned by Warner Bros. There probably aren't enough resources to replace the music.

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this, but booshman has released a colour corrected HD version of the international cut of superman 4. This version restores the tornado and Moscow scenes, which I think he has also cleaned up and upscaled.

Superman 4 was the first film I remember seeing in the cinema, have great affection for it, guilty pleasure and all! Would love to see this edit with the proper soundtrack. If anyone could help me out with a copy in some way it would be much appreciated! Thanks.
