Got the sad news from the awesome Jim Bowers that the Selutron cut is officially dead in the water at WB... and that the extended cut isn't moving forward right now.
I always felt that the Selutron proposal was suprising in how far it got.... but I'm more bummed that the extended cut- which I thought was far more likely- isn't moving either.
Thoughts?

Sad news but not surprising. It’s been years. Besides the chances of anything like this happening officially were and are slim and even if it did it’s hard to believe WB would let an outsiders work have any influence. They’d get their own people and disassociate their cut from anyone else so they could take all the credit. That’s how it is in the corporate world and WB is more of part of a bigger corporate machine than ever.
If something like his cut is ever going to happen I think it might have a better shot of being done for HBO Max. They could do what they’re doing with the Snyder cut of JL only on a much MUCH smaller level and as a smaller project. Just some re editing and maybe some new effects.

I wonder if it would make WB invest more in existing superhero projects and pump some money in for HBO max. The first wish of course would be SII= but I wouldn't mind a darker cut of Batman Forever, either.... or a recut of TDKR if there's a better version possible...

I think that’s the big question. If it’s a monster hit for HBO Max it’s hard not to imagine they might go back and look at their entire catalogue of similar films and see what they’ve got that can be reworked for the service. If there’s enough material there for longer alternate versions it seems like a no brainer. The footage is already paid for.

True- It all comes down to: will the studio take away the right lesson we want them to, and act accordingly? It's a pity that Donner doesn't have THAT much interest (nor it seems clout now) to push for an SII to be reconstructed as written. It's weird that even (as mentioned) a blu ray letterbox of the extended SII isn't even wanted right now, despite good sales on STM.

Not too fussed on the Selutron news as I assumed that ship had sailed a while back but I really hoped the RIC was coming to bluray after Superman 1 came out of nowhere and apparently did well. I need that footage WB, come on!

Agreed! While I’m thrilled we got stm extended from the phantom zone (who knew???) - it’s kind of cruel that we now know that it’s not impossible for wb archives to do this.... but they just don’t want to- despite the good sales of stm! what more do they want to get this to happen???

I appreciate all of your great comments. Why Warner Bros / Warner Archive are dragging booty getting the sequels' extended cuts in our hands is mystifying. They have called me and asked my opinion about these releases, and yet...nothing. The 134-minute edit of Superman IV: The Quest For Peace has been found. The George Reeves Adventures of Superman 3 in 1 features have been found. Jay Towers and I have discussed the 134-minute edit of SIV on our Caped Wonder Superman Podcast. Stay hopeful that we will at least see these releases - plus the extended SII and SIII - streamed initially, and then eventually released on disc.

The 134-minute edit of Superman IV: The Quest For Peace has been found. This is huge! No more speculation, it exists and they have it. Screw the Snyder Cut I want the Furie Cut!

Shame to know they’re literally sitting on all of this material we’ve been dying to see but it’s just not within our grasp. We could’ve had all of the deleted material released back in 2006 but there was an issue of space needed on the discs. We’re lucky we got to see the Superman IV material in the extremely rough condition they were presented in.
That’s exciting to hear about the Reeve compilation films. Hope those come out soon to get a taste of the series in HD. Hope they could do the same with The Flash films they made out of the 1990 TV series.
