I put myself on the waitlist for this & got bumped up.... but for some reason I didn't pay attention to the 1:12 scale! The extras look cool, will share review once I get it myself!

Keep us informed, CAM. It doesn’t look too bad even though I think it’s overpriced and cloth/soft goods rarely ever look good at this scale.

I don't know what I was thinking in getting on the waitlist when the scale was that small= but within seconds of trying to order it, it already sold out- so I guess I'm lucky just to be able to purchase this without the second round prices. The Crystal thing and the STM bucket looks pretty cool though .. (though I wish they had done the villains/Superman II bucket instead)..

Quickee update: the videos do a good job in what it looks like. The popcorn tin is definitely smaller than a regular movie popcorn tin, but the packaging and whatnot are pretty cool--- The crystal console and the tin is the best part of it, imo. The figure is okay, but it's smaller and not Hot Toys. I like what I got overall, even if it's a tad pricey. (I'm sure it'll be more on the secondary market) Pity it's not 1/6 though...

Ah so you got it. How’s the likeness to your eye? Which head sculpt do you think is best? How does it compare to Necas 1:12 scale Reeve Superman figure?
What do you think of the various Kryptonite accessories?

What do you think of the various Kryptonite accessories? The likeness is better than a number of other Reeve-Superman figures, but will have to dig out my Necca 1:12 and compare (Not at home right now)- The crystal console is the winner for me, though. Even though pricey, I am seeing if I can figure out how to get another one- I have this bad hunch that there's no guarantee on better ones that are going to be made. On another note- I've seen images of the rest of the Phantom Zone criminals that just slay me in 1/6.... but not in production with Hot Toys. I asked Arnie Kim if it was going to happen, but he said he wished so, but didn't elaborate. I guess if the Reeve Superman sold better for Hot Toys they might, but.... who knows? It's annoying, though, to see 3-4 versions of the Black Widow from Hot Toys but not one Zod, Ursa, and Non as of yet...

Well the MCU hot toys figures have current movies to push current product. They’ve got those films to fuel fan excitement and draw in new fans to the already massive fanbase all the time. A better comparison might be another older property like BTTF or Batman but even those aren’t the same. As cool as Zod and co are they aren’t as popular as Joker and movie Superman only has so many looks compared to movie Batman. We’ve gotten two figures from the Reeve films. Three if you count the SR JorEl figure. Technically it’s a Superman Returns figure but it’s close enough. That output is similar to a lot of older film and tv properties.

Quick look- the likeness is much better than the small Necca- he has a slightly goofier look, but Necca's face makes him look pissed off. A smiling Reeve in these times is very welcome.

Great thing about this figure is it comes with three heads. I never cared for the headsculpt on the Neca figure.

I find that Neca is great with detail but not always so great with accuracy. Sometimes they overdo it on portraits. I’ve got several terminators and sometimes they look more like caricatures of Arnold.

They made one. I know there’s the recent two figure set with Sarah and John Conner.

That's very cool- I wish I was able to have picked up a second one, but now only waitlisting available... Still available near me. Cheapest I've seen was $140. I can pick you one up if you want. I just bought the tin and flight stand separate, not interest in the figure itself. Still looking for the console loose buy not seen one cheap enough yet.

Thanks Booshman, but I'm fine just with the one after all- The main thing I initiallly got it for was the awesome console- but even then... I was hoping it was 1/6 to fit with the Hot Toys Reeve version and didn't pay attention to the scale listed- but the tin was nice consolation in a way.

Ok no worries, yeah I'm after the console to go with the smaller NECA figure, which I think looks superior to this one.

This kills the Neca figure as far as likeness and more subtle paint work (Neca looks more like a cartoon version of Reeve or a bad impersonator with the goofy pompadour) but this figure costs five times as much so of course it should. It’s not really a fair comparison. The Mezco figure just isn’t worth its kind of high price. The one thing the Neca figure has over this one is a sculpted costume. Cloth costumes almost never look good at 1:12 scale.

Love the console, though I don't love the scale (Wished it were 1/6 to match the Hot Toys figure).... On the other hand, I think it's in the eye of the beholder though for the head sculpt.... I think I prefer the Necca head to the Mezco one. I do wonder, though, what's going to come up next for the Reeve figures--- Arnie Kim's posted his Phantom Zone criminal prototypes on facebook, but when I asked him, he seemed to be in the dark, too, on whether or not Hot Toys would approach him to make a mass production on it. I guess the Reeve Hot Toys just didn't sell quite as much as they wanted to force them to do more STM related figures? Sad.... but maybe it's just a question of time?

I definitely prefer the Mezco head(s). It looks like a mini hot toy. The Neca head looks like a plastic mannequin that kind of looks like Christopher Reeve. Comparing the paint work on both up close...isn’t even close. Check out the skin detailing on the Mezco. But we are comparing a $30 retail figure to a $150-ish high end figure. It’s not really fair. But if Hasbro ever got the chance to make a Superman movie figure they’d probably blow Necas out of the water and for a cheaper price. I’d bring McFarlane into the discussion since they’re doing seven inch scale like a Neca but so far their likenesses to DC movie and tv actors has been mostly misses.

The Wonder Woman flight suit by McFarlane was actually pretty nice.... but, yeah, the Cavill Superman ones have been suprisingly underwhelming, as one example. I was thinking of hunting down the Kirk and Picard ones by McFarlane, but wasn't as passionate as I thought to really check them out...

The standard Wonder Woman is awful though. Just awful. I saw the McFarlane Trek figures in some store and while I was tempted I passed. The likenesses just weren’t there. I’d love to see a good company get the Trek license and start mass producing stuff. Seems like there’s a serious lack of Star Trek merchandise at retail. I hope the Viacom re-merger changes that.

I stupidly COULD have gotten the gold WW84 pieces at $10 from Target early on.... but only after seeing the movie was curious about it & bought it for $20- but it's so nice, I don't mind that much--- Iniitally I would have said I was giantly suprised- given the excellence of so many McFarlane toys- but after seeing the Cavill Superman figures, I know there's no guarantee on the quality just based on the company.
