I like this one. I think the costume looks a little more accurate than the hot toys figure and I like the proportions. Reeves likeness is a hard one to get just right. Most high end figures come close but depending on lighting or makeup or his weight at the time he could look different from scene to scene.

Are these Reeve Only Figurines? Yeah... Maybe I should expand the topic to 'Reeve-likeness-licensed' figures, rather than just Sideshow... Especially as I don't think there are THAT many officially licensed figures and statues out there. There was a Reeve-inspired STM dc statue that kind of looked like him, a short half-statue that looked more like Conan O'Brian mentioned here once.... the NECCA large one looked too angry for my tastes (I ordered it, it came damaged, but I think I just asked for a refund rather than an exchange)... but I'm not aware of ALL of them... So far- Hot Toys imho is still the gold standard, but the new Sideshow's looks pretty darn good to me!

I think the new statue looks off. It's better than their last effort but still a way off. It looks like a caricature rather than a realistic portrait. I see they ditched the sewn in S after all the QC issues they had last time. I still think the portrait on the Neca is very good, not perfect but it looks more like a human than this one. It just lacks the paint apps out of the box. Hot toys is great but they've improved further since it was made, if they did a 2.0 they could pull off something amazing.

On a similar note, talking about Hot Toys and how much they continue to advance... those Arnie Kim prototypes of the Villains are FANTASTIC.... but there's no Hot Toys production on the slate for them as far as I can see.... but maybe that's good so I can have time to save up the $$$ for it....

Necas work has great detail but most of their actor likenesses look off to me. I think it’s just the style they like to go with for real portraits. The Keaton Batman is the same. It looks more like a translation from a comic book adaptation than the actual people. Slightly exaggerated. As far as realism and accuracy Hasbro is blowing them away right now for a lower price. Some are hit and miss but when they hit they really hit. They’re rivaling some of the high end companies as far as likenesses. Even Mattel was getting better but it was just when they lost the DC license. Too little too late. Most of their stuff looked disappointing but their Shazam figure and their Michael Gough Alfred headsculpt looked better than the Keaton Batman face sculpt from Neca or the Neca Adam West face sculpt. It was average paint jobs that held them back more than anything similar to the problem Hasbro had years ago with their sculpts. With the new face digital printing Hasbro does they’ve kept ahead of most of their retail competition.

Reeve Superman could use a redo by Hot Toys. Better body and proportions and paint detail could go a long way as could a more detailed and accurate suit. The Routh Superman figure needs a serious update. Everything about it is very dated to the point that it looks more like a low end doll rather than a high end piece. I was hoping they’d make an Earth 96 Superman in the Kingdom Come suit if they want to do something more relevant and don’t want to license Superman Returns material.

But--- at this point, I'd rather they start working on replicating the awesome Arnie Kim phantom zone villains that look SOOOO good!!!
