I doubt Konner and Rosenthal ever took their jobs seriously. Just look at their other scripts. Their highest claim to fame is story credit for Star Trek VI, but anything they wrote was promptly thrown out by Meyer.
Perhaps with a decent effects budget and Reeve playing Nuclear Man, the movie might have better served the weak script, but we'll never know. One thing is for sure, what's on the page IS better than what's on the screen. I'll give the writers some credit there.

From what I can tell, Nimoy mentioned Konner/Rosenthal just once in his book saying that they contributed nothing to the script of Star Trek VI, and only got story credit for political reasons.

Reeve as Nuclear Man would have been a definite improvement. Of course when you take it that far why call him "Nuclear Man" at all? Why not just make him Bizarro?
I think there were 2 reasons for Reeve not playing the part: -They'd already done a "bad" Superman in III, and even had a battle between the good and bad Supermen. -Money. This would be the more important reason obviously, as splitscreening and all the various extra work that comes with having one actor play two roles in one scene would have just been too much for the budget.

Considering they blatantly ripped off the flying sequence with Lois from the first movie, I'm sure it was money more than anything else.

Phew, the Nuclear Man 2 battle is completed. I'm very pleased with the results. Thanks to Ollie W, I had the resources to replace the unfinished effects with completed effects from the laserdisc.
The added bonus was that it also had the complete sound mix, with all the sound effects and score, and in good quality. That was a big time saver. I just need to go back and do the Metro Club and Nuclear Man 1 fight now...

What be the ETA on this masterpiece?

Yeah, I guess I can put the around-the-world fight sequence up. Soon, quite soon. What be the ETA on this masterpiece? Well, I figure a week or two just to piece everything together. Creating the isolated score track manually will take another day or two. Then I gotta author the disc. I guess I'll actually create a menu for it.

I actually cannot wait! This is one of the most anticipated edits for me. The other one I can't wait for is The Empire Strikes Back edit being done by Adywan.

Not at all. Besides, I made the disc for him, so if it was a zing, it'd be a zing at myself. ;D I think I have that edit. Is that correct, James? Yup, I sent you a copy. Adywan's ESB will be incredible, I'm sure.

Zinging oneself is a must from time to time. It helps keep you sane.

I was involved with Alex S with his cut but everything went tits up, just recently i went back to the old forums but found i was banned..very strange because i not gotten involved with the disputes.
Jim instead of trying to included the Nuclearman 1 scene just lengthen the plot of jeremy and Nuclearman 2. Im sure there are ways to get around it. Because once you included the NM1 you have another plot hole to deal with and thats the metro club. NM1 one scene should remain a deleted scene for the time being until the metro scene eventually appears.

The Metro Club scene is gone, however I'm substituting it so there will not be a plot hole.
I'm replacing the necessary bits (Clark and Lacy going to the club, NM1 meeting Lacy) with stills from the comic book. It's kinda rough, but it tells the story.
I'm including every available deleted scene from the DVD (except for one), even the unfinished effects when applicable, with the exception of the first Nuclear Man 2 battle, where I used laserdisc footage to replace the unfinished effect. The only deleted shot I won't include is NM1 and the woman in the alley and his sparky chest. The comic book panes will show that instead.
Special thanks to MAV for the comic book scans, and Ollie for the laserdisc footage.
