I just recently came across this crass interview with Jeff East that brought up a lot of details that I don’t believe are entirely true. youtu.be/OezILnFzlsIFirst of which is the detail about East saying that Donner was fired by the time post-production came around for the first film and that he didn’t supervise the dubbing of East’s voice with Reeve. Wish we had more details on how this change came to be. The only real concrete detail we have is that East was not a informed of this until he saw the film. I don’t think one vote from the Academy is going to gain someone a nomination, as he says he would have gotten if the detail about Reeve dubbing him wasn’t known.

I will have to check it out- If Donner was fire by post-production for the first one... it doesn't make any sense. I remember collecting newspaper articles on movies at the time and it was 'breaking news' he got fired AFTER the movie came out and was a big success. Maybe it's bad memory or he was just misinformed....

The Reeve Only People insisted that his voice be dubbed.
It wasn't Donner's fault.

If parts of the tv version was his real voice, then it seemed ok to me. I never noticed the dubbing by Reeve in the theatrical- the only 'funkiness' seemed to be the two audio bite: "You're safe here son"- and Jonathan Kent's "what was that???" early on during the Smallville bits.

On a separate note, always wished I never heard Jeff East was given a fake nose for filming - now, when I see him in scenes, it's hard not to look at his face and try to scrutinize it.
