The sad thing (among others) is the loss of seeing a Donner's version of "Star Wars" with Superman. There was plenty to dive into- Supergirl, Brainiac, etc.--- even without a whole DCEU-
BUt- Assuming both versions had quality-
Would you have prefered (just throwing it out there) a 9- film series with or without a DCEU? (Though I would say Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes are ok to include and/or anything that strictly came from the Superman line of comics if saying 'no other superheroes')
Thoughts?

I voted Without
But I also think 9 movies would be too many, and would turn crap before long.
The best (IMO) would have been for Donner to finish his S2, and then to do a third one.
There is enough good material in the existing S3 that makes it worthwhile. Returning to Smallville, Lana, Superman turning bad etc are all new ground and were done well. I'd have liked to see Donner's version of the same concept.

I haven't quite decided yet- I think if it was done sparingly- it could be the best of both worlds- As is, I could see Donner/Mank doing great quality control for 9... actually 10. Here's what I would have seen them covering: - pretty much "Brave and the Bold"--- but/ with delicate balance to also be a continuing Superman story. STM: Origin SII: Phantom Zone criminals- SIII: Smallville & Lana- Donner's version & Brainiac perhaps SIV: Supergirl intro/ More criminals that come along with Kandor SV: Intro to Batman and Gotham SVI: Intro to Flash and Central City SVII: Intro to Green Lantern/Green Arrow and Star City SVIII: Intro to WOnder Woman and start of Justice League SVIV: The Legion of Superheroes SIX: Death of Superman

I vote "with." We've seen Superman done as a stand alone series of films or shows alone in his universe. Before I die I'd like to see what we could get seeing him properly mingle in a larger more complex world with others like him. Overall I'd like to see WB do a mix of stand alone movies (like Joker and The Batman) and shared universe. They both have their positives. The multiverse idea let's us have both. The DCEU was a failure but that doesn't mean someone couldn't do a larger shared universe right. I look at the truly awesome things we got to see with the MCU and the DCAU and the possibilities there for DC on the big screen excite me.

Personally- I don't think it matters , either with or without.
All that matters that it is done well.
Take the Terminator franchise.
They have meddled with all the permutations every 6 ways but Sundays.......but still have not have found that elusive magic pill that made the 1st 2 flicks memorable.
And despite Terminators 3 -6 having the advantage of decent budgets and so called advanced effects, they completely missed the visceral impact of the key integral elements of those first 2 movies(the love between Kyle and Sarah/and John's bond with the T800 and Sarah's maternal caring for John).
Also, the best special effect in T1 & 2 was Arnie himself(particularly in the first----probably one of the most outstanding non verbal performances in recent decades). The T1000 was the icing on the cake.......not the cake itself!
Same should apply to Superman(remember Roy Field saying how Reeve was the best special effect!).
And without sounding sappy........it needs a good love story almost above all else......just like what we got in STM and SII(also note how the love element powered T1 and indirectly in T2). Once it was pulled out of Terminators 3-6 , all we got was well..........the poop fest that we got!
SR and MoS also failed miserably in this department(love story)......at least with it's execution.
So don't underestimate the impact of love on the piece......we got a bit of it at the end of Endgame when Cap dances with Agent Carter.....and Pott's blaring her eyes out with the dying Tony(too little too late......but better than nothing at all).
It was also the outstanding element in Raimi's Spidey2.
So that's the base......then whether we get other heroes/shared universes and CG villains or whether it's a stand alone with an earthbound Lex as the main antagonist..... will simply be icing on the cake.

Good point!
Cameron said that all of his movies were love stories- and it seems to have worked.
What's sad about the failure of the Terminator franchise is that Cameron had plans setup for T3- but wasn't allowed to touch it until decades later, when it was too little too late!
Maybe proper authorship is the key to the success either with or without others. When Bryan Singer was overseeing the X-men.... except for the one time (Apocalypse)- the rest of his X-men under his watch had great quality, even if the consistency with continuity and faithfulness to the source material was sketchy.
