What do you guys think? I'd have Routh, but just have de-aging software for the younger parts (if need be).

As an alleged Reeve Only Person, I am triggered that Christopher Reeve was omitted from the poll.
I voted Routh

I’m a big fan of Routh but I’d go with an unknown or lesser know actor for this project. Someone who fits what Gunn is going to do. The fact that Gunn is letting Hoechlin’s Superman go on instead of falling under the ax like so many other recent things bodes well for his willingness and to give something a shot if it’s good.

Gunn has the great advantage of having his Superman be compared to the superdark and depressing Goyer Superman. To give Goyer credit, I like a lot of his concepts and love The Dark Knight & Batman Begins.... but he was just wrong wrong wrong for Superman. While I'm not sure that Gunn is the perfect guy for writing Superman, he has a low bar to easily jump over if we just compare to the last iteration.

He’s a good ideas guy. Gunn is a much better screenwriter.

But there are times in most Gunn films where I feel like there's a joke or two that just pushes a little TOO hard for a laugh at the expense of story.... but then again, I could say that about Whedon's work, too.

I’ve never felt that way about Gunn but there have been times I’ve felt that way about Taika Waititi’s Marvel Films. Gunn usually doesn’t step on a truly deep dramatic emotional moment with a joke. Whedon’s style can be too formulaic when it comes to injecting humor but he knows when and when not to do something. Even in the theatrical cut of justice league he knew when not to step on the serious moments with jokes when it would have been a bad idea.

In watching Thor 3 and Thor 4, (and the outtakes to Thor 3)--- I wonder if one of the unsung heroes of Thor 3 were the editors. Thor 3 to me strikes an almost perfect balance... but Thor 4 sadly just played too much to the silliness. Still a little sad to see Taiki leave Marvel- rumor was that it was the audience's negative reaction to Thor 4- but I would have rather he just made recalibrations in his balance of humor and seriousness in Thor, than leaving the franchise altogether.
