In the Donner cut they added a scene at the end where Lois kisses Superman. Problem is she doesn’t ask him for permission first so it is sexual assault. Perhaps this was why the scene removed in 1980? Also Lois never bothers to ask Superman about his preferred pronouns she just call him SuperMAN even though Supes might have identified as a woman for all she knew. Surely a warning ought to be added to the film for today’s audience?

Well, they did sleep together and had at least one date behind their relationship. I remember Margot Kidder saying in retrospect she wished her character never slept with Superman, that it crossed a line from being a family film or something to that effect. I guess the movie could have still worked if you cut out them going to the Fortress of Solitude bed... (shrug) But it would have ruined the comic timing of a guy in the movie theatre who screamed out 'was it worth it, buddy?' in the packed theatre after the shot of Supes and Lois snuggling in bed. That did get a big laugh that Lester was hoping for during the five minutes of sight gags in the Metro battle, but didn't get. |

I’m sure after Clark climaxed he would have immediately regretted his decision. Also if Clark and Lois didn’t sleep together what the heck were they actually supposed to DO once Clark de powered? Go on a romantic flying date? No cant do that. Fly to an tropical paradise and hang out? No can’t do that. Oh I know they could have made another soufflé…. |
