Yeah I saw that. I knew would be a big seller but wow. Hopefully McFarlane has ordered enough produced to restock online and has the figure repacked in different sets to meet the demand. It’s easy money. I’ve read there is also a Superman 78 comic version on the way as well.

There is a market but it depends on how big and keeping expectations in check. The adult collectible market is there but niche. Like that or a Superman II blu ray it depends on cost vs potential profit. That figure sold out because think of how many people would really want one.

The good thing about McFarlane is as far as I know they are a privately owned company and can pivot more easily. They can also get product out there surprisingly fast compared to some other companies. He has to see the demand here. Sometimes the way he handles things is to create scarcity to artificially drive up demand.

On the flip side.... maybe if this is selling out- that it fuels the possibility of 6 inch Terence Stamp Zod, Sarah Douglas Ursa, O'Halloran Non figures as well? (Hope so!)

Yeah I’m not that impressed with it either. I’ve seen worse for a domestic retail collectible but I’ve also seen better for that price. It seems like there’s always something with McFarlane’s stuff. Some place they come up short. The cuts for the torso articulation on this Superman figure look uglier than usual for a McFarlane figure. The likeness on the head sculpts isn’t terrible but it’s not the best they’ve done either. There are other things I’m let down by too. McFarlane is great at sculpted detail and paint (when they acually bother with any) but the quality of their DC figures is a mixed bag. I’ve seen some great ones and some god awful ones. They really needed to knock the likeness out of the park on this Reeve figure since that’s the biggest selling point but I think they only did an adequate job not an excellent one.

McFarlane has a reputation for being the gold standard (as far as I know) for the 6-7 inch figures.... so why would the ones with the likenesses get the short-shrift? Particularly the Chris Reeve one, which I'd imagine has to be the top of the top wanted figure.

McFarlane’s stuff has great sculpting and detail and paint work (again when it’s acually there) but the articulation isn’t always that good. 20 years ago their “figures” were more like glorified mini statues. That’s fine if that’s what you’re selling but if you promise articulation and it stinks that’s a real failure. Neca has everything McFarlane has to offer and more. There’s never a question of the paint application living up to expectations. The detail and sculpting is just as good as McFarlane’s figures if not better AND they can usually nail a pretty good likeness. Of course Neca’s products cost more but you get your moneys worth. If you can find their stuff on sale even better. I’ve often found their products for as low as $20. Sometimes even lower. Recently I’ve also found Neca’s product to be more easily available.

I read recently there might some issue with certain retailers looming too. I can’t remember if it was Walmart or Target though.
