www.newsarama.com/comics/080820-SupermanKeaton.htmlSomewhat old news apparently but I haven't seen it discussed here yet. Interesting info about Superman's early origin. Very similar to Mark Millar's ending to Red Son and also his plan for his proposed Superman movie trilogy. I kindof like the idea, Superman from the future instead of from another planet, making him an evolved human. Krypton does parallel this concept though, since it could be looked at as a possible future for Earth.

jerry and joe mrophed a lot of ideas before we got to action #1. i like the humanoid kryptonians as explanation- it could be they are evolved humans , bred by the annunakki... a futuristic human ? hmm.. in the fliescher toons superman is metioned as " the peek of evolution " , and lara refers to humans as " primitves...thousands of years behind us.."

I like to think of all the metahumans in the DC universe and mutants in the Marvel universe as the start of humanity's evolution towards a Kryptonian-type race.

That would be an interesting approach for a new Superman franchise to take. I thought Red Son's ending was a great twist, and I wonder if Millar knew about this when he wrote it.
The real downside with this origin is it would also mean losing the entire mythology of Krypton; the Fortress, the Phantom Zone, Brainiac, etc. In that respect I'm glad Superman remains a strange visitor from another planet.

I think making Krypton another planet instead of the future of Earth fixes those possible problems. Krypton is instead a world that parallels Earth, except further along in development. Kindof like all those worlds that somehow paralleled Earth's history in Star Trek. The one where the Roman Empire still exists in modern times, or the post-apocalyptic Earth with the two warring tribes who turn out to be based on the US and the Soviets.
