Great statue! I wonder how much it will cost? I also wonder if it will be released in December?

Okay, so he's here. My first impressions are that he's very...DC Directy. It does seem to grow on you though the longer you look at it. No mention of scale yet so let's assume 1/6 - which is dissapointment No.1. Ironically If that were an action figure I'd love it. He seems to be based on this here pose; Which I think was a nice choice; So, to the observations - The good* Nice pose. Relaxed arms and embodies the character. * Good attention paid to the chest symbol - It looks correct * The hair sculpt. As close to the style as I've seen * Good proportions. A nice attempt at Reeve's musculature rather than relying on a generic one. * The boots. Screen accurate! * The proceeds going to the foundation. Rightly so. The Bad* The photograph. Does DC actually want to sell the thing? Its 2008 and we get the wankiest of generic backgrounds I've ever seen. Would it kill them to paste a muted Peak poster behind him? Could somebody photoshop one to illustrate my point? Whoever did the artwork for that needs to be be fired. * The cape. Some bone idle sculpting there. * The base. Would a crystal \S/ not be more appropriate? Why not the fortress then? * The belt. It may be the piss-poor photograph again but that buckle looks flat to me. * The colours. What I was afraid of. Its early days but they went generic rather than production. Its forgivable. * The headsculpt. I can see Reeve in there but due to the nature of the still it was taken from his face is more 'squinted' which comes through in the sculpt. * Did I mention the artwork? Overall then not a colossal dissapointment but not the revelation I hoped it would be. Nice to finally have something official with Reeve's name on it but lets hope Hot Toys gets the licence and closes the book on this once and for all....

Well, that second pic killed it for me. As usual, DC direct drop the ball.
Cant wait til Hot Toys & DC Universe Classics get their respective shots at this.

I think its on par with the quality of the Linda Carter statue - facially acceptable but not excellent.
Excuse my ignorance, hot toys and DC universe? Do they normally follow suit and attempt figures once DC Direct produce something?
I took a look at hot toys, some of the Joker sculpts from DK are insanely good

The face sculpt is not very good. Doesn't look like Reeve at all.
Also, not putting the S-symbol on the back of the cape was a stupid thing to do.
Won't be buying this.

Excuse my ignorance, hot toys and DC universe? Do they normally follow suit and attempt figures once DC Direct produce something? Hot Toys will be making a figure & it will blow away this feeble attempt by the once great, but now sad DC Direct. And yes, they always do. As for DC Universe Classics, they are the wildly popular 7 inch figure line that DC have going on right now. Picture the designs of your favorite " Super Powers" figures from the 80's, but revamped to look better & more realistic. Much like those new He-Man figures that manetoys posted. When they do figures for a movie franchise, its under the banner of "Movie Masters". You know how they always release those crappy 5 inch toys for DC movies? Well for Dark Knight they did release that crap for the kids, but for us adult collectors, the guys who sculpt the DC Universe Classics line (The famous Four Horseman Sculptors, of McFarlane fame), created a sister line for movie figures called Movie Masters. They started with Dark Knight, & word has it they will do a STM & SR line, if allowed. So, Movie Masters, is DC Universe for films. But above all, Hot Toys, THE premiere figure company in the world will be doing STM at some point, & it will cause all of you to spend lots of money. I have the SR Jor-El, & its just about the best thing ever. Belloq got that Joker you spoke of. Its bloody amazing.

With the 'benefit' of seeing these new pictures on DC's site I have to say what an awful letdown this creation is. The omission of the cape symbol is frankly astonishing and the whole piece has been seemingly sculpted 'flat' using the reference picture alone without paying mind to the rear.
But the face sculpt is far and away the most dissapointing. How could DC pay an undisclosed sum to use Reeve's likeness and then frankly, not use it? its no closer to Reeve than the far more superior Bowen statue from years ago.
Mav, do you have confirmation Hot Toys will pick this up? If so, where from? I'm in complete agreement based on their Brando alone theirs will be the definitive (and non-static) version of Reeve all of us have been waiting for.
Even as a merchandise whore for all things Reeve good or bad Its inconcievable I will not be getting the statue, but I refuse. the only purpose it would serve is to make the donation to the foundation, but in all honesty your $195 would be better spent there also...

More proof of Hot Toys prowess as if any more were needed - This is the Jor-El of which Maverick speaks... Could you imagine a Reeve of that calibre?

darned right it is.
Hot Toys FTW!
Their Reeve will be as good as that Joker & the Jor-El they did.
They simply keep getting better.
Two Face comes out soon.
Their Iron Man was breathtaking. Real Lights in the chest, hands & eyes.

So, so dissapointed. Been checking the sites every day for news on this model and now its here it's a complete let down.
If this is the final design, what did the previous design stages of this product look like ? They have completley missed all of the core features - The facial likeness, the S on the cape, even the colours are wrong. If those last two features had of been there I would of had one of these asap.
The pose is dreadful, poorly chosen and says nothing about the character. Of all the photographed poses of C.R in costume this would of been the last one I'd of picked for being his statue stance. If that's what it has to be atleast give it posable arms and a change of hands so we can make it look half decent.
This product says everything about how the Superman franchise is treated.
Bring on the Hot toys version.
